Is Foxy Brown's influence/legacy/body of work being unfairly downplayed because of Lil' Kim?

People are forgetting Foxy when they are trying to give Kim all the credit for Nicki Minaj's style when Nicki has said for the longest time (ever since she came up) that Foxy is her idol and biggest influence.

Is it that hard to believe that somebody would prefer Foxy over Kim? And that's what I'm saying when I say Foxy's being completely downplayed

And I guess you missed these posts

She def got some influence from kim no denying .
But their rapping styles aren't really the same .
Nicki is right foxy flows are amazing . Foxy can get on any beat and kill it . Plus that whole Caribbean connection . Y'all gotta look at nicki around the Gaga time too . She really was influenced by her as well . Some of those wild hair dues are because of Gaga .

True, she definitely parts from Kim (mostly the image) but I could hear a ton of Foxy in Nicki's music.

Her flow and delivery especially when she 1st stepped on the scene was damn near a carbon copy of Foxy's

She was a mix of Kim and Foxy. She was Kim’s image and Foxy’s rap style. Nicki didnt even always have Kim’s image. She wasnt even always Nicki “Minaj” and when she first became Nicki Minaj and started really droppin mixtapes she was on that Asain “Ninja/Geisha” shyt. She wasnt doing the Barbie/Kim shyt yet.

Foxy is overlooked for several reasons:

1) Her music is dated. I still find a lot of it listenable and nostlagic, but a lot of those samples and remakes dated her music.

2) No album since 2001

3) No big songs since the 90's

Kim on the other had hits last decade and you can easily see her influence on Nicki sonically and style wise.

And if we're keeping it 100, Missy is more influential on Nicki's style than Foxy especially with Nicki's attempt to sing and the infatuation with Barbie, (peep Missy's "Beep Me 911" video even the screwed up facial expressions), weird vocal inflections and voice changes, and the minimalist, tribal production choices on her second album.

In relation to Nicki, it’s hard to believe her when her actions show something completely different, from styling choices, to hair, to phsotoshoots you can SEE where she’s biting Kim. As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words. So maybe fox did influence her rap style, but Kim influenced her image and that’s much bigger. Her younger fans who don’t know fox and Kim, get to know Kim cuz we SEE the parallels, they would actually have to go LISTEN to foxy to observe whether or not her sound influenced Nicki. That’s a much harder ask...

Eve has it was worse when it comes to being forgotten tho. Eve was selling more records then Foxy and had her own tv show...yet Foxy gets way more acknowledgment then Eve. So I cant point at Foxy while ignoring Eve..

:patrice:

I think I disagree with you.

Foxy was more easily forgotten, imo.

Who cares about just emceeing, especially what men think lol. It's clear both we're having rhymes written for them. The better MC doesn't have anything to do with why one has a bigger legacy years later or gets more recognition...the question this thread is posing.

And yes, Kim was bigger than fox in their primes - Kim sold more albums. Kim was a star. Fox was a rapper. They both introduced hood chicks to high end labels, but while Fox taught us the names, we wanted to emulate Kim's whole style down to the big momma persona.

No wonder women of today are in such a horrible state, idolizing prostitutes with self esteem issues:martin:

Eve really could have been the chosen one if she had kept it hardcore and wasnt exposed as a stripper doing 3somes with Stevie J:snoop:

When Jay was president at Def Jam he posed with Foxy on a 2005 cover of XXL.

Foxy then went to prison and went deaf mid 2000's. Even Nas shouted her going deaf situation on the song Hip Hop Is Dead......All up in the mid 2000's Remy was beefing with Foxy.....this kept Foxys name in the air. The rumor of Foxy dropping Black Roses on Def Jam was hyped up for years. Foxy getting beat up at Pink Houses...All the while Eve was on tv and doing Barbershop sequels but musically.....she was falling off like Will Smith,,,,,When she dropped the song "Tamberine" it went absolutly no where
This was supposed to be Eves comeback in music....But no one was bumping this except whitefolks

After getting dropped by Def Jam u really didnt hear much from Foxy...But u didnt hear shyt from Eve either but Foxys name would still ring when speaking on the best female emcees. Eve doesnt even get such luxury. When u think of best female rappers of all time u gonna think of Foxy before Eve.

Good point.

Eve wanna be a white woman so bad. She married to a white man with his own 3 kids (White) and not even try to make a baby with Eve :snoop:

Last time, she was supposed to be with Dre's Aftermath along with Busta Rhymes.

I thought it would have helped her career back but it wasn't.
