Is Foxy Brown's influence/legacy/body of work being unfairly downplayed because of Lil' Kim?

usually get mentioned before Eve does when cats talk about dope female rappers from the 90's up til now.

i think Eve crossed over too much..even more than Lil Kim did...and shes married now to the rich white dude...considering the type of audience she came into the game with..she prolly will never regain that type of footing again...she did have a nice little run in the late 90s to the early 00s

True shyt.

Eve tried to go pop too hard. Kims career kinda just gradually progressed into that pop lane all while still keeping her urban following.

Good point.

Eve wanna be a white woman so bad. She married to a white man with his own 3 kids (White) and not even try to make a baby with Eve :snoop:

Last time, she was supposed to be with Dre's Aftermath along with Busta Rhymes.

I thought it would have helped her career back but it wasn't.

I don't see how she wants to be white. And she akso down with Dre before she got with RR.

Kim as a rapper> Foxy as a rapper
Foxy looks> Kim looks ( altho old school kim is cute tho)

I think most fans look at Kim as the first one- her verse on players anthem came out in Early 1995
Foxy verse for who shot ya was fall of 1995

She was a mix of Kim and Foxy. She was Kim’s image and Foxy’s rap style. Nicki didnt even always have Kim’s image. She wasnt even always Nicki “Minaj” and when she first became Nicki Minaj and started really droppin mixtapes she was on that Asain “Ninja/Geisha” shyt. She wasnt doing the Barbie/Kim shyt yet.

honestly speaking kim & foxy rap style is kinda similar the major differences is voice
and nicki being trini same as foxy - may be the reason someone would say this

but lets be clear - when she went hardbody on lil kim style/look is when she blew up
thats NOT debatable : thats FACT

She got her buzz up on that “ninja/geisha” shyt. Then yea. When she officially started blowing up she switched to that barbie shyt. Which I hated and I always criticized her for jockin Kim so hard wit that shyt. Foxy and Kim never rapped alike. Flows was different. Not just voice. I knew Nicki personally bro. I know what it is.

I know Foxy's voice changed from the way she rapped on Ill Na Na and The Firm album, but she hardly sounded like Kim when rapping. When Puff called her out for sounding like Kim, I didn't really get it. There was a point in Foxy's career where she sounded much more like Shyne than she sounded like Kim.

Bro exactly. She went from sounding like a female Nas. To a female Jay. To a female Shyne.

Not really.

Foxy is the better emcee but she's not more popular for the obvious fact that she's more rugged than Lil Kim. I've said this tons of times, but mainstream music listeners cannot handle raw hip hop. They need it watered down. The vast majority of yall fit into this category.

On some straight rapping shyt, Lil Kim doesn't have a single song touching "Na Na Be Like (Blue Streak version)." Growing up, I was a much bigger fan of Foxy. Foxy peaked early while Lil Kim came into her own in the 2000s, especially with that classic verse on Quiet Storm and classic "The Jump Off." Kim made better music overall but not by a lot.

Foxy was just as commercial as Kim in the 90's. Foxy's rawest album is Broken Silence and even that had songs like "Candy". Foxy's singles from her debut album were a far cry from her "I Shot Ya" verse and were more in tune with "Touch Me Tease Me".

To me, Kim surpassed Foxy aroind the time she dropped "Money Talks", which was 1997. Crazy storytelling joint produced by Timbaland that made its way to radio.
