It's worth it. However, do everything you can to avoid student loans or keep your loan amount low.

Scholarship
Grants
Part-time job (or full time job while going to night/virtual classes)
Refund checks (use them wisely and remember it isn't "free money")
Timely decisions (Find a major, stick with it, and get your degrees. The more time you spend undecided or switching majors, the more time/money you potentially waste).

Just be smart with your spending and budgeting habits.

Just like everything else have a plan before doing it. How are you gonna pay for it? What do you want to study? What is the job market for your field and how will it be when you finish? If you got good answers for those it's worth it. If not then wait until you can confidently answer those questions.

Why do people think you have to go into debt to go to college?

If you do right in high school, undergrad has so much fukking funding that it can be free and they’ll pay YOU to go to school. I don’t get this mentality.

Stop fukking around in high school. And get four free years to chill and work towards a dream career. If that’s not what college is for you, you doing it wrong. Only reason I got student loans is due to traveling and many of those opportunities paid for themselves too.

Is your heart set on IT? If so, you may not need a degree to pull that one off. I’m sure that’s one of those fields that you can cert or experience your way to the top of. The normal trajectory is A+, then network+, then CCNA, and finally a database cert either Cisco or Linux. Its very doable at home within 1.5 yrs to finish it all or within 3months to get your foot in the door with the first two. The only issue with doing it on your own is discipline. Does this interest you?:lupe:

If you wanna do it with a degree you probably need comp sci specifically. But that’s more math intensive than the certs . What’s the highest math you’ve completed?:jbhmm:

OP, yes it's worth it
Why? Because of happiness
If you spend the rest of your life having jobs that don't need a degree then you will only get jobs that you can't keep for long.

Yes, if it’s for something you can parlay into a higher paying career with a stable job market, great examples in this thread.

Or If you can get into an elite school whose name opens doors just off the reputation.

Literally everone knows how to make it work but most are too lazy to pull it off. With the exception of law, usually it requires a degree with a lot of math or a lot of chemisty.

So.....

  • Nursing
  • Med
  • Eng.
  • Accounting
  • Pharm
  • Actuary science/stats
  • Physics/pure math but only for getting abank job
  • Flight school
  • And finally computer science

Everyone knows what to do from the day they graduate hs, but most drag their feet...:yeshrug:

OP and everybody else on this board, share this list with any family, relatives, and acquaintances who are planning to go to a college.

They need to know this information and the path of their desired career + a backup before they even look at a school.
