She's an employee man. She's still taking orders out here.

cause honestly, the O network isn't some heavy hitter like that. Its struggling and she's lost a lot of money trying to keep it afloat.

Plus, once oprah retires whats her legacy?

She's too invested in her own brand. Thats the problem and doesn't help much of anything or anyone.

Your problem is you're trying to define her legacy as some purely black thing and it will never be that because the very nature of her success is one of crossover appeal. She's made her mark historically as a blk woman in entertainment, succeeding in a way no blk person has before her and thats her legacy today. All these other business ventures are just attempts to raise the bar even more and thus increasing her legacy. I commend what she's attempting with her network. Whether it succeeds or fails is another story but she's tried and thats saying alot. She has no one to hand her vast wealth down too and that is what she has chose to do. I personally think she'll leave a trust that gives alot of her wealth to philanthropic issues of her choosing but i digress.

None of that has anything to do with your assertion that she's just some glorified employee that answers to someone. Who exactly does she answer to bruh? Discovery Networks because they are bankrolling OWN? She could walk away from OWN today and still be one of the richest women in the world. Business is business, and she is at least trying to generate something that will last beyond her years on this earth. Legacy. You think she'll retire? I actually think she'll die(or go down with the ship if it fails) still doing shows on OWN as long as she's alive and able, not because she has to but because she WANTS too.

If she's an employee then i guess there's no such thing as anyone being their own boss in your view.

Yeah im actually reading up on the black wall street situation mentioned earlier in the thread, and im shocked man. SMH its crazy how oppressed we really are as a people.
I know this post is 2 years old, but it sums up our biggest problem: our lack of knowledge of self/past history. The key to "change" is us learning about the past, which will instill a sense of pride, which will lead to more unity.

This is exactly why they purposely hide, suppress and manipulate past events. They don't want us waking up on a mass level.

You aren't getting "an economic stimulus" from the government.

We need access to business loans and credit at a very low rate.

so you believe a big national black bank is needed or at least many smaller ones?

I wouldn't say "enough" but it's a huge portion of what needs to be done.

Problem is a lot of us don't fully understand the importance of practicing group economics. And right now everyone is doing it except us

Don't overthink it brother. Black banks need to provide loans and lines of credit to black businesses where the founders have presented a solid business plan with a real plan for generating revenue. If our own people won't take a chance on us, who will?

My ultimate goal in the next 3-5 years is to establish my own VC firm. I don't plan on ONLY funding black founders, but I will ensure that the playing field is EVEN and FAIR.

:ohhh: I never even thought about it like that.

It would be pure competition. We will want nothing to do with white people or anyone else but our own. Racism will not effect us as it use to cause we will fight back and have a different mentality. It would be "survival of the fittest" and they would lose cause of a 500 yr head start.

For anyone that wonders why black banks are seriously needed and why you need to open up savings with them instead of other banks, this is why. It is so they have the capital to invest in the future wealth of the black community.

While other banks are giving loans to everyone else while turning down black folks, these banks are looking to especially give loans to blacks while tolerating anybody else who deals with them.
