Is it fair to say Summer Sixteen flopped as a single?

Yep.. Drake is really playing chess with some of these songs people think are throwaways...
The moment Hotline Bling dropped I pictured marketing departments for cellphone companies racing to throw a check at him....T Mobile won the bidding war..
"Back To Back" also. Especially since he's with Steph a lot. Even drops Draymond's and GS name on the song. Genius

I can assure you your favorite rapper would trade his album for a 'flop' like this.

Y'all kill me.

I you don't like Drake fine, but this was essentially a one-off, throwaway track, that is like cotton candy, it tastes sweet and then it's gone and you don't remember it and it still charted fairly high.

If you consider that a failure, I can't imagine the lofty heights you guys consider success.

True, but to me this is a sign of the beginning of the fall. I love music, especially rap, so I pay attention to a lot of things. Drake is about to be over. All that hype for him with the meek mill thing is about to turn on him. It's how people are. If he doesn't change his sound up, whether people like it or not, he will be gone. Most artist get 5-7 years to shine, this is Drakes 7th year. It's crunch time to either solidify his place, or just be that guy who was hot.

I do agree with this, I said this when NEWTS dropped that Drake needed to make the next leap artistically or people will start to tune him out. His next album will be crucial to where his career is going. While I do think Meek fukked up his career going at Drake, he did crack Raditz's armor in a sense with a good headbutt and made people question Drakes legitimacy.

Every rapper falls off so predicting a fall off doesn't make you a enlightened rap fan

Most rappers don't have have 5-7year runs; more like a year at the most) and outside of Wayne, Jay z and Kanye no one has done it at the level drake has for as long as has

What hype from Meek is about to turn on him? People thought B2B was a dope song. That's what came out of the Meek thing

You are ignoring how wildly successful WATTBA was

I'm not talking about every rapper, this should be common sense:what:

I'm talking about the top tier:upsetfavre:

My man, it's only been 6 months, things take time to happen. Just wait, and see.

BTW, they said 50 cent was the biggest thing, and his run was never seen before. Where is he now with fans?:usure:

What's funny is you are young, and obviously love drake, so you take what I'm posting as hate, but this isn't new to me. I seen people who was the shyt for their time, and everyone called them the new shyt. 5-7 years go by, them little guys who was watching nickelodeon grow up, and laugh at that old shyt because it sounds the same. Then the new guy comes in, they call him the best thing, and the cycle continues!

That's not the way rap is anymore
Always been like that, and always will. You know why?

MONEY:troll:

Most rap fans are not into the music, but the image, and other theatrics. After a while they stop liking the artists they claim to love so much, because they need a new fix, so here comes the new nikka, for the sheep:feedme:

I'm not saying you are hating I'm saying your analysis is silly because everyone falls off.

the longer you rap the less the youth are going to want to hear your music as they come of age.

But people that fukk with Drake aren't going to stop listening to him because of what ever you're theorizing with Meek.

Drakes fanbase is strong and he will fall off when the quality of music declines like Wayne

You are wrong. Rap fans are here for the music but Rap is about being new and fresh and eventually you stop sounding new and fresh to the 16-23 year olds that dictate what's popular

What I meant is social media has lengthened the career of the average rapper by years, you got people like Odd Future and ASAP who haven't changed up their sound for shyt and drop new music every blue moon but still sell like crazy and maintain a loyal fanbase. Even then, the average relevancy span of the "flavor of the time" rapper is like 5-6 years tops, Drake is going on his 7th.

1-Again, I'm not talking about every rapper, I'm talking about the people who sell millions of records for 2-3 albums.

2-I didn't say they are going against drake because of meek. What i'm trying to convey is they went at meek hard because they were mad at him for exposing their "man", but as that dies down, they realize he isn't as hot as they thought. It's what people do when the person they love is exposed. They fight the messenger, and as time goes on, they realize they don't really like the person as much as they thought.

3-That was my main point. You want to argue that you just missed it. I wrote it will happen if he doesn't change his sound.

Again, they are new to the game. What you are doing is looking at a few years as these people are doing it up, but that is a splash in the bucket for the music game. Plus, they aren't selling like crazy. Asap Rocky did not sell well for his last album. I know he his in debt from all the money spent on him. Odd Future isn't even on the radar, they are more like an underground group. Don't let social media fool you.

What does change his sound even mean? Who changes their sound?

Who went so hard at Meek? Everything is fair game for jokes and memes on the Internet. All people did was take the popular lines from B2B and make memes thats no different than anything that goes through social media

It wasn't a defense mechanism because of an "exposal"
