I had some issues with West Coast hip-hop in the early 90's especially with NWA towards the end, that being said, they definitely contributed heavily to the soundscape of hip-hop and helped provide a platform for Southern and Midwest artists. They also contributed heavily to the underground scene like the Freestyle Fellowship and Hieroglyphics. Yea there were a lot of wannanbe gangsta promoting a lifestyle they never lived, but that happened with East Coasters too.
