If we wanna be honest, Trap is the natural progression of hip hop or whatever it is that hip hop musically represented.
The transition from rock & rock and its variations to hip hop, is closely related to class and resources (or lack thereof). Basically, instruments cost money, and learning how to play those several instruments (to form a band) cost alotta time which is money. DJ, mixers and sampling minimized costs by getting rid of live instruments.
In a sense, this new artform represented the black experience way better than soul or jazz. Cuz the average person could never be a soul or jazz musician and form a band, or even want to for that matter. Too expensive, too time consuming. So hip hop became the music of the streets. People going through hardships gravitated to it more than a lot of these other genres, which are more enjoyed by people of middle or upper classes.
Trap basically took that same dynamic, and went further. Its just computers now.
