I think this is because the next generation consoles came sooner than expected. Seems to have stalled development for a lot of games.

Not even. There used to be competition between the the consoles on who would put out the better games. That don’t happen any more

The only slowdown with gaming of any level is due to the Pandemic furthering delays in an industry that was already wrought with them to begin with due to increasing tech/expense costs of development.

its because aaa development costs have skyrocketed. We never gonna see a gamecube/ps2/xbox gen again.
