Humidity plays a big part in bright the moon looks. If you're on the east coast, and it's unseasonably warm (like today), it's also relatively high humidity (The back end of high pressure brings warm, humid air from the gulf). also, a clear sky at night actually raises the humidity levels more (that's why we have dew on our cars in the morning when it's clear and none when it's cloudy). The muggier the air, the harders it is to see the moon.
