Is it normal to resent black folks for perpetuating stereotypes?

That is fair. But when it's brothers I get irrate because they'll turn around and ask to get put on once you finish building something. I guess I'm holding people to higher standard cuz they black? Is that wrong?

Nah, there's nothing wrong with that.
I'm just saying, it's not even perpetuating a stereotype when a lot of people (regardless of heritage) are slow.

Ik what you're saying. I just chalk it up to priorities and the people themselves and not the race.

So perhaps disappointment is the right word. Resent sounds like im gomma join the klan. Lol.
nah fukk it man be honest

Just gotta present a context first, which you did after the fact in the opening post, so...

I think it's a matter of what they stand to gain from it. You gotta start small, just you and invite some other nikka, make it like 3 comics, 15 minutes each. That way you can vet people, study their discipline levels in relation to other things and make your pick of the 2 that really want to tell jokes for a living and have the discipline to stand on it. Most people want to be movie stars they don't wanna act for a living.. They wanna be rap megastars they don't give a fukk about hiphop. They wanna be on the cover of ELLE or NYLON magazine they don't wanna stand around for hours posing in the latest fashion. They wanna get their own basketball sneaker but they don't wanna come to practice. etc. Pick 2 people that really love it, comission them. Have a weekly show until you get enough buzz that them other nikkas realize that they can benefit from being a part of your shyt. Then you'll have a bunch of nikkas begging to work for you, and style on the nikkas who wanna be disrespectful. Whether it's cats you're tryna put on or cats you're tryna get put on by, nikkas don't respect shyt till they see money so you gotta finesse yourself to a place where you look like money

Keep in mind i'm a broke nikka sayin this tho :russ: just my thoughts

Jokes. I had about 25 folks ready to laugh and no openers. I had to just throw up the other comics that just came to support.

How long you been doing this for? Cause unfortunately this happens a lot to new promoters and event planners, especially if its not a major event or great pay.

But make sure you find yourself a few performers who you can have as your in house regulars. So when this happens you will be good.

But in this business, this stuff happens when you start out.

Yeah, its entirely normal.
I resented a lot of my Black classmates in high school and college who would skip classes to smoke weed, never study and have some of the lowest scores in class, get pregnant and drop out (this happened a good 5 or 6 times), get arrested or caught stealing something, or catch a charge doing hood nikka shyt. Even worse is they would try to hinge on being Black as the reason they're doing badly, as opposed to them just being lazy. Its even worse in grad school admissions.
I know the same is true when booking musicians and performers, they come to the shows late, they come drunk or stoned, they get arrested doing something stupid, or they get in a fight/start a fight.
It honestly bothers me, and even though I try to mask it with the usual "white supremacy/raised poorly/just trying to deal with life" excuses, its not enough a lot of the time.

Don't fall off that high horse there partner...

Some people just got it all figured out I guess :yeshrug:

I hosted a show last night and all my black performers were late, smoking outside or bailed because p*ssy. This was a damn fundraiser. People talk about community but they don't wanna fill the role and be a role model. Seeing other black dudes act like this pisses me right the fukk off. Why is it so hard for folks on an independent level to be professional? :smh:
Like how artists never show up for BET Awards. They'll be at the grammy's and MTV though, even if they aren't nominated.

Ive done bands and open mics and been alright. Usual hiccups. I'm just getting into producing feature shows. This is my third. I'm still figuring it out, for sure. I actually have my regular folks. They ended up filling in so it all worked out. I just don't really wanna slide the no shows to the end of my list because they're black. Maybe that's messed up and why I made it a race thing to start with.

It's true. In working on it, I just get passionate about certain things. Arts and community work are two big ones.

You still new in the game, so the folks who think they are super talents aren't really sold on you yet. Unfortunately its fukked up, but until you are a name that carries weight, these things will happen. Regardless off race.
