else?

Rock and Austin were great but really it was Austin vs. McMahon

Austin and HHH never had that monster fued because HHH got hot while austin was down.

Bret was a better foil to austin than HHH

but any time Rock and HHH got together you wanted rock to MURDER HHH and you knew that HHH would do anything to avoid it. Rock cut 2-3 of his 5 best promos EVER against him and was crazy humorous when it comes to the rock. Backlash 2000, Judgement day 2000, fully loaded 99, Summerslam 98, even the build up to the mess that was mania XV...all gold. They did great business together too (austin / rock did more of course though).

Is this a reach or does it make sense :leostare:

Rock vs Austin were better than Rock vs HHH, but Rock was HHH's best nemesis in the ring imo
they had tons of classics
I believe their 98 rivalry is severely underrated

Absolutely. They were natural rivals and you could feel it.

yeah...i've talked about it a lot because I've watched it a few times but when rock was DESTROYING hhh in damn near worked shoot status RIGHT before he hit the ring at fully loaded, HHH looked FURIOUS and was legit swearing on camera begging him to come out to the ring...dude looked like he wanted to stiff rocky real bad. They brought out the best in each other

No argument from me on that one. Your thoughts though? Who do you think these two had the best programs and chemistry with?

Rock and Austin's work leading to WM 15 and 17 is untouchable. Rock and Cripple H was more of a deal where Levasque sounded jealous of the Rock from 1998-2002. His promos spun that in 10 different ways. Summerslam 98 was the best Ladder Match of the 90s in the WWF though and they had the best Iron Man match in history. Backlash 2000 was legendary but more because of Rock and Austin than Cripple H. He was just part of the McMahon/Helmsley machine. Hell, the month before they made it more about the Rock dropping Stephanie than Cripple getting that cheap retain.

Cripple H had a very good post No Way Out 2001 promo though putting himself over Rock and Austin. Of course that was just a lead in to the Undertaker and Taker murdered him during that face to face the Smackdown after.

I hear you, I don't agree about backlash 2000 though; he was as important to the mcmahon/helmsley regime as the rock was to the corporation in his angle. Austin was a huge part yeah but who did he help?

Jealousy of rock was a piece of the heat though but thats what made it seem more legit. HHH did feel like he was held down while rock skyrocketed immediately. That helped the fued big time imo.

They both thought they were legit better than each other during that time.

This is also why the bret v HBGOAT feud was fantastic.Real life problems always end up being great television.

To an observant fan though, the reasoning is false. The held down option speaks of backstage politics and that can be spoken of by anyone who is allowed to speak on the subject. That's why it came off as more jealous than a money promo to get himself over. And then that whole "It's my time" crybaby shyt they kept pushing the second half of 1999. It was ridiculous. Didn't really matter though. The Rock used to piss that guy off in so many ways...can't tell you how many times the crowd no sold Cripple H in those faceoff promos in 2000 when he would try his weird jokes. I remember Cripple H tried to bring up how he won the title off of Foley clean on Raw and how the Rock fukked Foley over to get the title and the crowd was DEAD silent on that shyt and then chanted Rocky and no sold Cripple H like he was Rob Conway on Heat.

Of course Rock/Austin was the bigger deal and was huge box office and rightfully so, they were the biggest names and had great a great chemistry together that resulted in great matches, but their rivalry always had a hint of a friendly/mutal respect vibe rather than deep hate/distain ..and i happened to like both Rock and Austin which is why i think i enjoyed Rock/HHH just as much if not more than Rock/Austin because it was so much easier to choose a side because EVERYBODY hates HHH, and you always got the feeling that Rock/HHH legit hated each other and nothing gave me more pleasure as a fan then seeing Rock son HHH verbally on the mic back then, and follow that up by kicking his ass in the ring :ahh:
