Why wouldn't you learn the language of the country you live in? :dahell:
Americans get shyt for not knowing other languages in America lol

who's giving americans shot about not understanding another language? if you don't understand whats being communicated, you are not the target audience. :manny:

idk. but that was one example of people not directly speaking. there are several others.
someone ask you for a dollar on the street bet you act like a deaf mute :manny:
act =/= are

Acting like a deaf mute ain't the same as being a deaf mute.

That example so flimsy and disingenuous it shouldn't be taken serious. Mutes can still communicate with sign language... that's their primary way to communicate. Thing about sign language is the different varieties. Not arbitrarily but specifically, strictly addressing the OP about the UK and it's English requirements, the UK uses British Sign Language and that can be learned by people living in the UK.

So mutes in the UK still have a way of communicating with people who are not mute by British Sign Language if and only if people in the UK know BSL.

Nobody acts like they don't hear people on the street asking for a dollar, they're ignoring them. Big difference.

the prime minister of England posted this and the responses have been mostly angry ones. Lots of claims of racism, fascism, etc but I dont see it that way. If you move to another country and you dont know the language you should learn the language. If i moved to France I would try my best to learn French :yeshrug:

It's different in England, because their language actually is English. They don't have large parts of their country that speak a different language. Even among the Scottish and Irish, very few of them speak their own language.

But in contrast,Since the early 1800s we've had whole states that mostly spoke Spanish, because they were Mexico for hundreds of years prior to that.

So if somebody immigrates from Honduras or El Salvador it's highly likely they won't need to speak a lick of English if they move to New Mexico or Southern California or even South Texas. I've been to whole neighborhoods where everything from the hospitals to the grocery stores to the electronic stores to the banks was entirely in Spanish.

You didn't say that when you brought up acting.

You was talkin' 'bout mutes first:
there's people who are mute and can still live in any society so this seems arbitrary
Then you was talkin' 'bout acting like a deaf mute:
idk. but that was one example of people not directly speaking. there are several others.
someone ask you for a dollar on the street bet you act like a deaf mute :manny:
Now you talkin' 'bout what people sayin':
if you really think the people that say "no speak ingles" aren't acting i got a timeshare to sell you. enjoy your nicotine :mjlol:

You're whole perspective on this issue arbitrary. You ain't stickin' to no one single topic to prove ya point.
Is you talkin' 'bout mutes or people actin' like mutes, or people actin' like they can't speak English 'cause OP is:

If you want to live in the UK, you should speak English. That’s common sense. So we’re raising English language requirements across every main immigration route.

Mutes in the UK can use British Sign Language to communicate with other people in the UK who know British Sign Language.

Is your refrigerator running in that timeshare?
