This is more an issue of refusal to integrate with the local population. Most people who genuinely try to integrate into a culture learn to speak the language quickly and easily.

How's it racist to state for the benefit of overall societal function, you need to be capable to read/write/speak in X? Its the basis for an official language as people can retain their cultural tongues but find commonality. i.e Kenya has 42 tribes but they're all competent in at least English or Swahili, if not both.

No, they raise half illiterate children and require us to pay for translators to facilitate access to local services: police, fire dept, schools, medical.

I know because I grew up with their children. That's where you get that Cardi B accent from in NYC, primarily uptown and Bx. I grew up understanding Spanish, watching Sabados Gigantes, and eating plantanos at my lil friends house. One of my bestest play aunties still to this very day only speaks to me in Spanish.

Mutes in the UK can use British Sign Language to communicate with other people in the UK who know British Sign Language.

And Spanish speakers can communicate with other Spanish speakers. People speaking the other language are getting along just fine and understand enough English. This is just clearly another “white fragility” talking point. Any ways that’s rich coming from the British considering their history of colonization and not learning the languages of the countries they occupied.

Idk if it is or not but it is dumb . I know people here for 30-50 years that don’t know English and I kind of look at them sideways .

My pops who a citizen now but came from another country learned the language asap . He talks with an accent still but he can read and write in English


If I moved to another country where they didn’t speak English I should learn the language .

How can u read the traffic signs if u can't read English?

I'm planning a trip to Europe and a part of the preparation is picking up local languages just in case....not to mention what if I want to speak to someone?

Seems racist to move to a country and not even try to learn the language, tf u move here for?

basic english should be a requirement for citizenship. beyond that skills and education matter more.

the kids will learn english anyway if they are in the right educational setting with opportunities.
