Skits are always cool as long as they serve a purpose on the album and are not filler.
The skits on Kendrick album drive the story along well and are entertaining. On T.I. album they also fit in. I hate the skits on college drop out for example... They are annoying as fukk.
There's skits as classic as songs. The skits on the chronic for example and most early Wu albums.

Best skits hands down, and arguably the one's that popularized it, is De La Soul. Specifically on "De La Soul Is Dead".
A lot of classic albums have skits. It's not a coincidence. I guarantee I could quote random skits from everyone from Wu to Outkast and 90% of the board would know what it was.
Skits on an album are like seasoning on a good steak. It's good without it, but done the right way it makes it a lot better.
