Missy is utter trash.
Missy is utter trash.

it is the bait and switch marketing Def jam used which is the beginning and main gripe.

She was still popular and Supa Dupa Fly is a classic album whether you like it or not![]()
understood.
what do you think of the actual album tho?
and also, what do you have to say about jay after he signed to def jam?
This is true. Like Im an 80s baby. I aint shame to say that I first started paying attention to rap during the shiny suit era. My older brother (5 years older) was into the Wu Tang, so thats what I was digging for a while. But Biggie and Puff and Mase was that deal when I was coming up. The nX crushed the buildings.
It was def jam's further attempt after warren g to capitalize on the draw of the west coast sound and artistry.
Yet this time it was rolled into making a capitalized dishonest draw off of the cadre of tupac clone war base of fans.
Similar to master p and other tupac bitten artist.
Which was an appeal to that fanbase.
Looking for a new outlet after the loss of Pac.
Evident by the original marketing for dmx's video via commercial.
Where you only saw quick cutout imagery of a bald headed hyped guy.
Plus, the video being purposefully made so it would he banned and create a nostalgia as something more than it was.
also,..dmx had dumbed down his own legendary white label ability as an unsigned hype emcee.
To capitalize on the dumbed down lyricism of tupac during his deathrow drawing days as well.
I was not buying that shyt and I still do not.
Also,...dmx, and what he would later become and being ostracized from defjam is also telling as well.
As both dmx and def jam were on whoppie.
So real talk, others bought into the east coast Pac draw of dmx.
I did not and still to this day I am Better off for it.
As I stay grounded culturally and never overprocessed or supported that work.
plus, I recognize the siphoned off draw of Pac, that defjam used as well.
As defjam faked more and more jax in that era as much as any other label, as well.
Yet is ignored because of the impact of the sales spike era.
Which was also a lie and I truly wonder about how real the sales really were, as well.

I was really young bumpin 2short,NWA, E40,Cube,Scarface, Nas-Illmatic. So by the time the "shiny suit era" came around, I was already well versed in hip hop and not just in 1 region. I think that I have the most diverse non biased rap collection out there. I literally have thousands of cd's from the bay,LA,midwest, east and south. Underground/Mainstream.
