It was an attempt to humanize him. I'm from Oakland, I was around when that stuff went down. Oscar never got a fair shake with the media, he was completely demonized by the media.
White folks a trip. They did the same thing with Trayvon. "He would have ended up dead anyways" or "he could have killed my son" smhIt was just a film to absolve whites of guilt by associating the boy with drugs. *o he had weed, he probably deserved to die*
Yea thats how they wipe their hands clean and remain complicit in the midst of institutional bigotry, by finding one flaw of the victim they can use to justify a death sentence.White folks a trip. *o he punched his brother in the face? He probably would have grown up to beat someone to death.*
Subconciously they believe black people are inherently evil so all of our deaths as a people and as individuals can be justified by individual behavior or particular aspects of culture. If all black people were killed tomorrow what do you think theyd say.Truth

. Like dude said they added fluff to humanize Oscar, the same way the media likes to add fluff to dehumanize us. I don't see anything wrong with it. And to those who say the movie was overrated, what more do you want? How can we 100% know this?Obviously, the parts that happened before the incident were made up.
i cant name one movie based on a true story that isnt filled with fake stuff. since a person lives their life off camera, the only things a screenwriter will ever know about a person are objective truths. you cant do a movie about bullet points, you need the in between stuff to give a sense of character and to move the story from scene to scene. also, a movie will be judged on artistic merit, so scenes like the dying dog in fruitvale have to be thrown into biographical or topical movies to depict the messge of the movie in an artistic way.It was an attempt to humanize him.
