Is it safe to say that this is the worst year in hip hop history?

Alright but I wouldn't call Murda Muzik or Black on Both Sides 5 mic classics though. BOBS is a 4.5 mic classic imo, but I might let it slip.
But anyhow hypothetically, you would take an album with 1 classic and a bunch of garbage over an year with mad amounts of strong albums?

And I don't know what's forgettable to you, but there are 5 mic classics that are a lot more forgettable than strong albums.
Organized Konfusion & Breaking atoms are a lot more forgettable than Regulate or Slim Shady LP.
Forgettable and classic are mutually exclusive.
And nah, I agree with the scenario that you laid out, I'd take a bunch of 4.5s over a year with absolute shyt and one bonafide classic. Of course, we've never had either scenario in real life. I'd still take 2009, based off OBFCL 2 alone, over this year. Where nothing got above 4. And some vets (Kanye and Jay) dropped absolute shyt albums.

i was going to say it was far from the worst but then i've been seeing people call Cole's album the best rap album of the year and i have to think about it for real.. i'm not his biggest fan and the album wasn't horrible just average and if this is what people think is the best rap album of the year then what does it tell you ? :ld:

the worst year ?...nah.
the most obvious thing this year is that no album has had that staying power for to be in rotation for months.

funny that the album i've probably played the most this year was leaked just about a year a go..A$AP's album and even then i went months without playing over the year until i played it on thursday.. Yeezus was the follow up in terms of the amount of plays it got.. Run The Jewels and exquires Kismet i really liked but never felt like playing it a lot...FBG and Wolf got some play early in the year... Ghostface and Prodigys albums did their jobs..MCHG i played a lot for a few weeks and then that shyt basically disappeared from rotation.. Danny Browns Old had a decent amount of time in rotation.. MNIMN, NWTS and GHS follow up Yeezus as the rest of my most played.

Blue Chips 2, Pimpire Strikes Back and Because The Internet all deserve mentions.
never got around to listening to Banks newest tape, Earls or Ka's albums..need to listen to Snoop/Dam-Funk and Marci Beaucoup i've only played once so far.

off top, my favorites were probably.......

Live.Love.A$AP
Yeezus
Albert Einstein
My Name Is My Name
Nothing Was The Same
Get Home Safely

most of them "style over substance" albums but i enjoyed them the most.

absolutely

tons of dope loosies like any other year but as far as albums it was horrible. Priest, Oddisee, Alchemist and Deck dropped serious heat. liked Rocky's album, Gucci kept his listeners fed. but alot of cats dropped duds (Danny Brown, Meek) and alot of cats that were supposed to drop fronted (Wu/Future/Ross/Q)

ill have to look over 06 again, shyt does look bad on paper :merchant:

I don't think it was bad just 2012 had so great highs, so if 2013 releases didn't measure up that doesn't mean it was the worst year ever. Some good music came out may not have been earth shattering, but good never the less.

Last year we had LIG, GKMC, and a plethora of other great AOTY candidates, this year was hard press to find one album in the caliber of any last year's AOTY candidates:yeshrug:

Yeah, and those 2012 albums all came out within a 4 month span :whew:

I Believe that 2014 will shyt on 2013 rap, by A LOT.
