is it silly i'm torn between a 2015 i8 or a 2014 tricked out Jeep Wrangler?

I've always wanted a Jeep wrangler all black 2 door. I just never got around to getting one. For months, I've been saying that's going to be my next car but then all of a sudden I have the opportunity to get the i8. Now the i8 is not a car I've always wanted but I love the look of it and drove one for a few days while I was in Miami and loved it.

I just find it so weird that I'm having a hard time between an i8 and a wrangler. I'm gonna be driving it for at least the next 3-4 years. On one hand the Jeep is such a good car that truly maintains it's value and it's a nice little humble stunt....but the i8 is just a totally different beast. It will get lots of attention, that I don't mind but I don't want it all the time.

I'm not necessarily asking for advice but has anyone else been in a situation where you're stuck between a choice of two different classes of cars and can't seem to decide? It seems like the i8 is an obvious choice but it's not. I've always wanted a Jeep Wrangler. I really think each car fits different parts of my personality and how I want to drive and how I want to be seen driving. It's hard to choose.

Thoughts?

One is a completely impractical $100,000 used futuristic looking novelty super car (though 0-60 in 4.2 isn't exactly 'super'). You'll need a daily driver.

The other is a stiff riding do anything anywhere everyday vehicle.

For $100k buy a Wrangler for everyday use and buy a Cayman GTS for the weekend. Forget about the i8.

I’d wait and get the next gen Wrangler. It’s roght around the corner. Lease to get a low payment up front then buy. They’ll probably owe YOU some money at the end of the lease. Get that and do what AYO said, get a 2 door. The 650is are getting cheap now. Can get one low miles for under $30k.

Sounds like you want to stunt and be low key at the same time. The i8 ain't low key and the jeep is not a stunt at all. so not sure what you want tbh

@trillanova Join the Wrangler crew :takedat:.

Ask anyone on this forum that has one the complements are daily .

Every bish is gonna tell you I love wranglers always wanted one :noah:.

Men are gonna respect you and compliment you like thats a nice truck always wanted one :salute:.

Get a two door also :mjpls:

2007-2017 and the new jk 2018 are the same exact body style .

Best thing about the Wrangler is you make it how you want . If their is a feature you want tons of after market options .

shyt you can even easily add heated seats to front and back seats .

If you want to wait till December second to see what the next gen JL will look like to make your choice .

How is the ride? I've heard it's not really that smooth and I hate driving something where I can feel everything. Until you posted this I had my mind made up that I was going to get the i8 but not I'm back having second thoughts. I love the fact that it's a simple car but it's a classic car you can build up and really make it fly. What you see is what you get but there's something fly and rugged about it at the same time. If I do get one, it's definitely gonna be a 2-door because the 4 doors look bulky as shyt.

What makes you think the i8 can't be a daily driver? I live in NYC and my apartment has a garage with an electric charging station so I never have to worry about that. Just because it's futuristic looking doesn't mean it still isn't practical driving wise. It's excellent on fuel and handles really well. Also, I don't want a super car and I can appreciate the fact that it looks supercar-ish, but is still actually just a luxury car them blends hybrid and traditional. A supercar is not only out of my budget but I don't feel like it's something I would want to keep up with financially. The i8 is a nice position in between the 2 worlds while still having that bit of extra prestige and futurism. I also think the Cayman is ugly and I'm not interested in having 2 cars.

Daily driver means something different for everyone. The fact that I probably couldn't pick anyone up from the airport (unless they had a weekender) or drive myself to the airport is the first thing that would discount it for me. I do about 100 legs a year flying so driving myself to LAX is the only option. Anything more than a roller bag is not fitting in the i8.

Also maintenance and repairs on a 90% bespoke parts car not built for daily driver mileage is probably more of a consideration to me than comfort and charging. Leasing this car at $1200 with $10k down is insane to me and buying out of warranty is not an option any sane person would take.

Not having at least a hooptie and having the i8 be your only car is :mjlol:

Well for one, I don't drive myself to the airport and anyone coming into town to visit Uber's 99% of the time. Plus I'm not basing my decision on what car to get around the >3% of the year when people visit me needing a ride from JFK or LGA. Secondly, I work from home so I drive it when I want to where I want to and I'm not going to be running it around the city every single day. I really only drive 4-5 days a week anyway and I barely hit 700 miles a month if that. It will be very well kept because I have an attatched garage. Third, I'm single so I'm buying this car for me and my lifestyle is pretty simple. I travel light and I shop light so I'm not worried about trunk space.

This isn't a value buy for me. I'm not thinking about what I can get out of it necessarily. It's more of an experience I want to have and I want to enjoy driving something that really wasn't even imaginable a decade ago from a realistic driving perspective. Also, I don't feel like I'm throwing away my money or wasting it to have this car and use it in the manner I want. I have the extra cash to purchase it and can lease it comfortably if I decide to go that route. Like I said, I like the fact that it's not 100% supercar and you can still drive it day to day. I've watched quite a few reviews of people that use this car as their daily driver and everyone I've seen had minor complaints....mostly trivial things that I can easily overlook.

How many times do I have to say i'm not looking for a supercar and i'm not even expecting supercar quality. I live in NYC so I'm not trying to get a ticket reving this shyt up for no reason. I LIKE THE CAR. I don't even have any experience driving any kind of supercar so why would I care about the comparisons. I don't even have IG so i'm not stunting for anyone. I don't even use social media.

I'm sorry son, anyone buying a L8 is trying to stunt with that bs 300 hp

shyt doesn't even make sense for the city with those roads bruh, my daily car tired of those roads.

I would suggest staying away from it because most are leased so later on the used prices will be very low. Look at 2014 r8, amg gts, 991 turbo

Just test drive a few cars around that 100k price range before you make a mistake

I drove the r8 for 3 months back in 2012. I wouldn't want one again. Like I said, I've driven the i8 before and for my particular daily driving habits, I don't see where I can go wrong. I'm single with no kids and all my friends have their own cars. The only time I really have a passenger is when I scoop a female and that's usually temporary (for the time being). For my lifestyle and life overall I've made all of the considerations. I'm not driving it to totally stunt on people. I actually enjoyed getting into the car and driving it and that was enough for me.
