listen man you couldn't tell me shyt about kendrick in 2010 and 2011, i pretty much crowned him as the new school successor to andre, nas, hov, pac and other elites of the 90's. overly dedicated was that crack and quite frankly i can't even remember how i stumbled upon it. maybe 2dopeboyz or one of them? i dunno but when i heard ignorance is bliss i went bananas, eventually that whole tape got crazy burn right along with flockaveli & all that other 2010 shyt i was bumpin. next year he drops section 80 and my old head cousin still won't forgive me for comparing it to illmatic lol. like how dare i do such a thing? aight maybe i was a little stanleyish and overzealous but i still say that is kenny's best work hands down and a certified hip hop classic (why did cole give him that amazing beat for hiipower and not keep it for himself?!?)
then good kid drops and i was mad happy that the masses caught on to how ill this brother was with his bars but truth be told i couldn't help but compare it to section 80 and thought it fell short. wasn't really stressing the skits like that and felt like he took a step back lyrically. still dope but wasn't reagan era/fukk your ethnicity dope plus i think drizzy got him on poetic justice but that's another story.... then to pimp a butterfly drops and his popularity begins to soar, chuck d gives him the ultimate cosign and i'm happy for him. but i still felt like his lyrical prowess was set aside to display experimental stylistic elements that didn't blow me away like his older work. then damn which i like too but this new way of rapping, "get litty" type of flow which i love on other rappers but not on him wasn't moving me. my much younger cousin thinks DNA is his best song ever and i'm like c'mon bruh really?!? LOL i dunno... then the mediocre features, less than impressive black panther soundtrack verses.. i fear poe man's dreams & look out for detox kendrick is gone forever man
