The Other A
Way too early

The black panther series were coo...

Creed was ok

Fruitvale station was his best overall work to me

That said, I haven't seen Sinners

Will say he has a bright future

This...

Sinners was OK too..

It had a particular scene that was unique and super dope and specifically targeted to the black audience.. nikkaz are reducing the entire movie down to that one 7 minute scene, don't be fooled.. the movie was ight, let these mfs tell.it it's the best movie ever made in the history of movies :comeon:

The debate of who's better between him and spike Lee is ridiculous

Shaka King directed Judas and the Black Messiah.

What are you echoing?
That Shaka should be in that conversation, and that movie didnt get the support (in tickets) it should have, especially from us. The soundtrack was fire too. Shaka's idea for a MF DOOM documentary is also brilliant.

Nıgga please.

Cooglers little discography is overrated.

Jordan Peele, Issa Rae, Courtney Kemp, Kerry Washington, Tasha Smith and Cord Jefferson are better screen writers and directors than him.

My wife wants to see it this weekend so I'll give my review but based off prior history, dude is just OK at best.

Black Panther 2 was trash and Fruitvale station was ok but not better than Spike Lee's low tier films.

Black Panther 1 was good but let's not act like it would've been a layup for any up and coming black director with that budget, time, casts and Tyler Perry studios.

He exposed himself with part 2.

Creed 1 & 2 is not in my top 5 boxing films but Michael B. Jordan directed part 3.

Not saying dude is trash but he's aight at best.

Also Black Kkklansman is criminally underrated. I loved that film. No plotholes and probably one of John David's bodies of work right behind that film he did with Zendaya. The writing was phenomenal and the revenge at the end was 🤌🏽.

Jordan Peele? Only good movies from him to me were Get Out and Keanu:mjlol:. Candy Man had some promise to it,but fell short(meh). NOPE actually made me upset in the theatre. I said NOPE ,shouldve saved my money.

Cord Jefcerson?only streamed American Fiction and it was mediocre. Jeffery Wright underutilized in the film.

Issa Rae? I would need a list of her films but i got a feeling your just yapping sbout her and Keri Washington. But lets see what films and t.v shows she has that make you say this.

Part 2 was NOT a dud for Coogler. He cant help it Chadwick didnt tell him he might die before he was casted(respectfully). He made a great TRIBUTE to Chadwick with the 2nd film. Yall are just watching that film all wrong and want them to skip over Chadwicks passing. He made an absolute miracle considering his options.

Why does everything have to be a competition amongst black folks? :snoop:

True elevation is when you get to the point you can acknowledge Cordell Stewart and Mcnabb wasnt all that. Because now we have so many great black QBs:respect:.

And thats not a slight to Spike,i understand the limitations he had and doors he broke down. So please understand im grading him on a curve keeping that in mind.

Coogler only has 5 major films:

Fruitvale Station
Creed
Black Panther 1&2
And now Sinners

Spike’s catalog is way too deep

Coogler didn’t direct that movie

Quality over quantity. Current body of work, plus a slight sliver of projection here.

When Mahommes came out the gate fast,we PROJECTED he will pass Brady.
When DMX came out with 2 classics in a year,we projected he would be a goat if not THEE got. Barring a tragic brain injury or drug addiction. Id bet my life Coogler wont be dropping as many duds as Spike has:respect:.

Amira

I remember Amiri Baraka killed Spike for his depiction of Malcolm X. More importantly the pivotal moments in Malcolm’s life that he left out and half the movies focus on his life as a pimp and hustler. Nostalgia aside, X was a very uneven film.

Most of Thecoli were kids. More people were probably critical than we knew.

"My contempt for Lee's "Malcolm X" movie stems from the fact I knew most of our people would rely on the movie, not any serious study of Malcolm's life and contributions, to form their perspective of Malcolm and his work. As a result, I was completely shocked while viewing the movie on its opening night in November of 1992. I was there with several A-APRP members. Our assignment, as was the case for our organizers nationwide that night, was to leaflet movie goers with a brochure clarifying Malcolm's crystal clear anti-zionist position. The movie was so terrible I could hardly stand it. The story had been changed in some very strange ways and most of the people who would be absolutely necessary to explain Malcolm's conflict with the Nation of Islam were conveniently left out of the movie. No John Ali, the suspected government informant. No James Shabazz, Clarence X Gill, Elijah Muhammad Jr. No Louis Farrakhan, but the most egregious offense was Lee's shoddy handling of Malcolm's work in Africa. The work that defined Malcolm's Pan-Africanist legacy and caused him to be killed. I was so upset that I couldn't even watch the end of that movie. I abruptly left my seat to go outside to start handling out the anti-zionist leaflets. I guess I have to give Lee some credit for developing my oratory skills because I was so mad that night, I played the role of a street corner preacher at that movie theater, preaching to people about the real Malcolm who wasn't portrayed in that movie as they exited. My fire that night was fueled by a portrayal of Malcolm that seemed to depict him as anything except the revolutionary Pan-Africanist that we are convinced cost him his life. Our ability to reach our people is challenged, compromised, and misdirected at every turn. Something that may seem so simple to you, like what Lee missed in the Malcolm movie, serves to set us back for years. This is the cause of our frustration with that movie. Lee compromised portraying Malcolm with integrity for personal fame and fortune for Lee."

Spike got backlash for ChiRaq too btw. But folks wanna talk about Black Panther 2 and not how bad that movie was. I stand on BP2 being a good movie.

He got backlash from Boots Riley too over Black Klansmen. Saying Spike took too many liberties with the story. Anyone seeing a pattern?

Spike can do a biopic, but he basically wont let the actual story get in the way of what he thinks is more interesting. Even if those changes change the story completely.

That’s wild to bet your life because I’m pretty sure no one expected Spike to have a lot of duds after his start either.

The difference here is I think some of those early Spike films that are acclaimed were also duds. But we just werent in a place you could afford to crtiticize or critique him honestly. So his shooting percentage was never as effecient as advertised. There is no Coogler film yet that i havent rewatched multiple times, and I plan to rewatch again.
