Can someone explain the appeal of horror movies to me? Is there a reason you enjoy watching people getting killed? Is it the unexpected jumps? I never saw the appeal in movies like Saw, Friday etc.

Serious question, what do you get out of it? Horror is probably my least favourite genre.
Yeah, outside of select few most horror movies are trash, shyt is by far the woat movie genre imo.

Even that I would call that more of a psychological thriller (which I would enjoy).

When I think of the horror genre, I think of the cliche “turn a corner, thinking someone’s there but it’s a cat, then a second later the murderer is behind you.” It just seems predictable and boring.

I just don’t see the entertainment in knowing a bunch of people are about to get killed.

Movies like The Thing are more psychological movies than horror. Yeah they all get killed but it’s the suspense of trying to figure out of who The Thing is.

Right. I personally see right through slasher films and that excessive gore phase of movies Saw brought in does nothing for me either.

If I'm watching a horror movie it's got to be something physiological or something that'll linger with me like the original night of the living dead.

I've seen enough half nekkit white woman trip and fall out of thin air to be impressed :martin:

Most of my relatives seem to strongly dislike horror movies but I think it has something to do with the fact that they're all very religious.

That's part of the problem; you're limiting the genre to gore/slasher movies, but it's more extensive than that.

Psychological horror (not just thriller), when done right, is some of the scariest shyt imaginable. The thought of your perception being distorted to the point you aren't sure what is real and what is fake is terrifying. A fractured mind is a horror in and of itself.
