LISTEN to what the commentator says before the game starts(this is game 5). that nucca GP was in mikes JERSEY. i think gp's number changed to 23.

you dont stop super scorers you irritate them. frustrate them. make them WORK for everything they get. and put a little pressure on them on the other end.

the sonics blew them fools out. in game 4, after losing the first 3 games of the series. see below, gp locked up mike in game 4, mike came back strong in game 5, but still wasnt putting up jordan super numbers.

if you want a GP defining moment. it was this game. for those that ask for special moments.

he locked mike up. and he was smaller, less athletic.

this dude jordan shot 6-19 (.319 fg). 4 turnovers, and only 2 assists, for 23 points. cause he had 13 ft attempts.

gp was one of only a very small batch of players that was not afraid of mike.

did you not just watch gp in that video getting all up in mikes way? yes mike had a normal 50% night that night. but he didnt go off. the night before GP got all up in mike and had mike shoot below 40%.
sorry, i saw the game, i was there when it went down. i gave you video evidence and the commentator telling you GP was all up in mike. mike trying to downplay it. no he was not the jordan stopper. lets not be silly .but he was all up in mike the entire series. sometimes mike got his. other times mike looked real bad out there. how many defenders do you recall making mike look bad without hacking him (detroit)? not many. thats because 99.9% of the guys guardin him were not as athletic, were to short, to light in the wallet to deal with him. and usually those guys that were at least some what athletic. they didnt have an offensive game to make mike work on the other end. so he could chill on defense and still make them look bad, then go down full of energy and kill them on offense.

GP made mike work on defense because he was a scorer/pg as well. he had post play, as well as drives to the basket. mike couldnt steal the ball from GP like he did some guys. because gp knew how to spin off of your body. YOU REACH i TEACH. you reach spin and your hand gets thrown back at you.

so sorry GP made mikes life a lot tougher then he has ever had it for one guy. sure the sonics did a good team job as well. but best believe if i would ever say some one player gave mike a hard time. it would be gary. cause a lot of that was him.

again dont lie to yourself there's a reason a POINT guard won DPOY that year. he was that good.

Let's not act like Kidd wasn't great defensive. He could guard 1's AND 2's in his prime and do it very well.

shyt, even past his prime, Kidd could play D. Did we forget that he was guarding Lebron in the Finals 2 years ago? And was doing a very good job at it?

Of course, he legtimately earned his keep in that championship. The bigger picture, however, is that Payton was the two-way player Kidd wasn't. I can rely on Payton to give me defense AND score when I needed him to. I can't say the same about Kidd.
