Jay-Z has always bragged, as his tax bracket has risen so has his taste and the shyt he raps about.
Hip-Hop has always been about look at me I got this...as the years have gone by it's become look at me I have this and you don't. Everybody brags in their music its just Jayz is stepping it up from bragging about Cristal, Ciroc (hope these nikkas getting checks from Diddy

Jay-z's gimmick from day 1 has always been I used to hustle now I rap, but I'm still a hustler mixed w boasting about his paper, he rarely ever steps outside that comfort zone ...so this is nothing new at all....if u don't like it u probably don't like anything he did

I been listening to Jay for a while, but his condescending not bragging, his become pompous not cool.
Its like dude learnt collectible art is what rich dudes do and at mid 40s he cant stop yelling out basquit, then damien hirst and banksys.
No man should know what a Hermes Bag looks like thats for wifey, yet this nikka talking bout closing the store down. Jay been rapping about womens clothes and bag for waaaay too long now.

I'v been a Jay-Z fan for years and i get that he's always 'bragged' in his lyrics but the TS makes a solid point. It's not that he's bragging and talking shyt thats making him come off like a pretentous douchebag, it's more the content of what he's recently been rapping about.
Hearing about Art Galleries and fashion shows, sailing in yaughts, his designer purses for men, etc. would be cool in small doses but those things arent relatable to the average person, especially in the middle of a recession. If it wasnt forced into almost every song i wouldnt mind but the fact that it's in 90% of his current verses shows signs that he might be out of touch.
With that said, hopefully it's just a phase and he hasnt been living in his fantasy land for too long to make relevant music that the average person can still relate to
