By who? Nas will be remembered forever to people who actually listen to music.
By everyone

He's not sellin 2 mil 17 years deep in the game for nothing

Hell the 2 leadin new artists in the game(Kdot and Drake) say Jay Z is the GOAT

Jay has the respect, acclaim, longevity, recognition, sales, everything..that makes a GOAT a GOAT

He will be remembered on some GOD sht when he dies

Nas will be remembered by a few cacs who hate "rich nikkas" and c00ns who hat "rich nikkaz" cuz they hate the image of a continuous black successor

The only reason Jay-Z is still selling is because of all of the old people and white folks that "hate rap but love Jay-Z". It's definitely not because of the music. Hell, he was on Oprah to plug that trash BP3...that's instant platinum right there, from her flock.

I think some people have a hard time distinguishing the difference between "greatness" and "popularity".

Jay-z could very well be the most popular rapper of all time, but greatness is a whole different beast. When it comes to the music, greatness is just not a word that someone would realistically use to describe Jay-z's music

No it is because of his music..Jay makes entertainin music..u Nas stans cant wrap u teeny lil minds around the fact that musically Jay is a master of this sht...

Yall still stuck on "bubububu Nas says more words to match.."

Ya so does J electronica..but the records show Kdot had the best verse on Control so...

Jay is a greater MC than Nas..point blank period....

Yes. No one has accomplished what he has. From music, to clothing, to sports, to video games. This guy has damn near done it all. This guy is a Hip-Hop legend.

When people look at Jordan they don't just look at his game on the court they look at the shoes, the movie, the games the fact that they've been trying to look for the next Jordan since he retired.

When it's all said and done Jay-Z will be the greatest to ever do it.

No, Jordan dominated his era statistically at a level not even Lebron or Kobe did. He went 6/6 in finals. Jay Z has NEVER even sold a million first week. He didn't become "Jay Z" til he married Beyonce and announced his retirement.

That's not entirely true. Ice Cube had the production company, acting...Will - TV, movies, companies, sports...Master P - all of the above, LL - there are others that have done what he has done on some level. Puffy?

And when people think about Jordan, it 99% about his accomplishment over his peers ON THE COURT. People could care less about him being a sh!tty executive, and only kids say "what shoes did he score 55 in?" Magic is still associated with being one of the greatest PGs of all-time, not Magic Johnson Theaters.

When it's all said and done, Jay-Z might go down as the most successful rapper/business (and still might see comp from Will), but as far as rapper period? Naaaah

so according to your reasoning, where do you place vanilla ice in the GOAT debate. he has sold 15 million of one tape?????
numbers are important, but not as important as you make them out to be.
and that is why there is still a debate, because there are a lot of other variables that have to be accounted for!
jay is great, that's it and that's all!!!!!!!

:yeshrug:
No one is saying that numbers are everything but if Vanilla Ice was still selling to this day, you would have to admit defeat and admit that he must be good. You cant be whack and still sell year after year, album after album for long. The problem with other variables is that they are extremely subjective so you cant weigh them much because they differ from personality to personality.

lol, im not sure about that. It takes a lot to remember all the artists from way back in the day. In most cases, your reign at the top needs to be long enough(20yrs). Its so easy to forget that DMX was the biggest rap artist not a long time ago but he is fast becoming someone that most people wont recognise if they met him at the airport today.

Only people that can reject these facts (not bias, but actual FACTS AND NUMBERS) are clear fakkits, Nas stans (and I LOVE Nas body of work and put him in the top 5 lyricists of all time), and people who just hate because his ubiquity and commercial success rub them the wrong way.
