Californ-i-a by way of BK
joey has had one of the weirdest careers

it's like, it's obvious he should be numero uno, esp in NY...but his music just doesn't have 'it'

and i think he's completely confused about himself as a person...looks like don't know whether he's coming or going and it ends up showing in his music where he's halfway crooking between backpack and swag trap rap
Joey Badass biggest issue is in order to be "The Man" you gotta be able to make club bangers. He can't. He can make really popular songs for his niche audience and a song like Devasted had crossover appeal but you can't be "that guy" unless everybody is fukking with you. That's probably his only defining song you can point to, that non-fans and more casual listeners will know.

Joey came in on some 90s boom bap shyt, then switched his style to modernize it, but he still doesn't have those songs that all nikkas bump.

He's still getting a shytload of money, so it shouldn't matter. Being the "King" or whatever don't mean shyt in 2018. He's doing great for himself

well it clearly does otherwise this thread wouldn't exist

and you're 100% correct with your opinion on his career direction

he started on boom bap sh_t and has tried to modernise it...that's it...but his version of mordernised boom bap just doesn't hit...at all, esp not the way he wants to, that's why he had to make a devastated

lets just cut out all the bullsh_t...his music doesn't appeal to young black folk en masse, it does for that niche white hipster market (which is slowly closing the door into becoming a :flabbynsick: generation)

do you know what you know...i just think he makes boring music tbh...i'm not even gonna lie. i think that's his main problem, that and like you said, his inability to make a banger

I dont believe him one single bit about ghostwriting :duck:. That dyke chick Starrah probably wrote Rockstar like she wrote damn near every big song the past year or so. :hubie:. 250k for ghostwriting from someone who cant even write himself a hit record :russ:

Joey Sadass is a not making 100k from features :camby: :usure::mjlol:, who the fukk would pay him more than 1500 for a verse? I've never heard a Joey feature at all :deadmanny:

I fukk with his character on Mr. Robot though:ehh:

From jump Joey was always kinda in that Black Nerd Rap category to me. I never had him pegged as a dude that was gonna be that guy.

And you are right bout him not necessary knowing who or what he is.

He should just embrace being the Talib Kweli off his generation.

He wrote Rockstar with T-Pain. You could have just looked it up instead of writing a wall of text about nothing. Plus he had a hit record and it's listed in here.

Some of you brehs are beyond goofy.

I saw the articles a few weeks back, I still find it ridiculous that he ghostwrote such a simple song. I also find it incredulous that he is claiming to make so much off features. what exactly is his hit record, because I never heard his shyt on the radio

Devastated

Does that matter what you think he's doing well. Why is it ridiculous?... If you hear his hit song you can tell he figured out what people wanted and gave it to them. Simple ass auto tune crooning music without the lyrical miracles. You should be more astounded by why Post Malone needed that written for him. :heh:

He wrote Rockstar, he's caking...

Do I believe he got 100k for ghostwriting yesterday? No.

Tour money probably isn't his net. Could be revenue.

He's doing very well for himself and monetized his shyt better than many rappers of his era.
