Kobe had plenty of teammates that could relieve the defensive pressure on Kobe, but Kobes preferred style of play is to isolate and score directly on his defenders, not using screens or ball movement to get open looks. Pippen would have taken shots away from Kobe, meaning less scoring. If Kobe was taking even more shots with Pippen than without him, the defenses would catch on and sag off of Pippen.
