Actually, local co-op has seen a resurgence lately. Maybe dudes who post here aren't into it, but several games have come out relatively recently that focus on local co-op.

If you have a 3DS or a Vita, most multiplayer games have an ad-hoc multiplayer option in addition to an online option. Some games only need one person to have a copy of the game.

Another good thing about the Wii U is that it is compatible with Wii controllers, so if you own a Wii, you already have extra controllers for other people.

A good thing is you don't need a gaming PC to play a lot of these games, which means that if you have a relatively modern laptop with a HDMI out, you can play these games on a TV which solves the "huddling around a computer screen" problem.

indie devs are doing more local co-op, but i suspect that has more to do with their coding abilities or with the fact that they live a more game-centric life than most adults, and less to do with their innate knowledge of some resurgence in local play.

in my own life it is not common, at least not once a month, especially as different people started going to college, becoming struggling ass parents, or leaving this state altogether. i just dont deal with new people the way i did with people ive known since i was 8 years old.

Alot of pc games are played on LAN which is about as local co Op you can do on a pc
