Is mainstream boxing ever going to make a comeback or is it on its death bed ?

it's the most fundamental sport & naturally folks will always gravitate to it

cats who throw hands for a living tend to be off in the head & that's perfect for the internet era

the most popular champions are the ones who provide steady fukkery ha

brehs I'm making this thread because I love watching boxing, but it's popularity and media attention has fallen off a cliff imo, excluding Mayweather, Manny and a handful of others

I remember back in the day there was Pernel Whitaker(rip), Chavez, De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad, Roy Jones, Fernando Vargas, Zab Judah, Shane Mosely, Vernon Forrest, Prince Naseem Hamed, and I fully acknowledge I left out a gang of others cuz I can't remember all of em, but you get the point.

I used to love HBO Boxing After Dark, HBO Championship Boxing and dope ppv, along with Showtime as well but I didn't have Showtime.

Has MMA buried boxing, did too many belts and politics ruin boxing, is it simply not getting the same attention and promotion of MMA.

:whoa:

don't get me wrong I have nothing against MMA, I just prefer the sweet science of throwing those hands, I like how precise boxing is and the knockouts just look more clean in my personal opinion. And the matches are way longer in boxing too.

So what do my Coli brehs think about the current state of boxing and it's future, I'm open too all answers and input, not looking for any arguements or anything, just want to know what yall think.
MMA isn't even as popular as it used to be, if it's not McGregor then people aren't paying attention. ESPN really overpaid for the UFC rights.

What he means and what a lot of people want to know is who is the actual champ. Like what am i supposed to be watching. Thats the problem with boxing when everyone is the champ nobody is the champ. People tune it out unless its some over the top shyt like what Mayweather figured out.
These belts have existed for 40-50 years I'm honestly confused at the question :dahell:. If you liked boxing it it's "prime" you'd know that. Only thing new now is stupid shyt like regular interim and franchise for contenders.

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
The best fighters need to fight each other and need to fight more frequently, period. That’s what’s mainly hurting the sport. You got the best fighters outside of Canelo fighting once every 18 months and shyt. You could be in a coma for 3 years and you might miss two “big” fights. Letting the fight “marinate” is what’s hurting boxing mostly.

thanks for all the input in my thread brehs, especially the different opinions and dropping what channels are showcasing boxing

a couple of things, it would be dope if boxing went back to being on regular network channels like NBC, ABC, Fox and CBS...but I know that's only a dream lol but thanks again for dropping the current channels it comes on now, even though tbh I never heard of DAZN(sp?)

thanks again coli fam cuz I love the fvck outta boxing
:salute:

sidenote, why DID HBO get out of the boxing game like someone said, cuz when I was younger I used to eat very well off of HBO boxing and knew who everyone was and who the belt holders were

Also I understand about the importance of the heavyweight division driving the sport, but after Tyson I really enjoyed the welterweight division cuz they still knocked eachother out and during my gen welterweights (and around those weight classes) had a lot of big names that actually FOUGHT eachother

Outside of being combat sports, people really need to stop comparing mma and boxing.

You have two completely different sports, with different business models, that have their own audience.

Boxing will never die because of how we crave violence and tribalism. They just need more streamlined booking where the major fights are made without all the bs. Boxing will never be the ufc because that's all under one league but they hurt themselves with all these belts and promotions tied to networks

In the last 20 years, probably no boxer has underachieved more than Adrien Broner. He had the raw tools to really be great.
But each time he's been challenged, he's failed.

A card will still come on Fox every once in awhile.
PBC. Cards usually ok for some free stuff.
They've had some good bouts on there you really gotta Google to know when they're coming on tho. They get more frequent during the summer I feel like.

The ultra-professionalization of teams sports like the NBA, NFL, NHL and even MLS has quietly over the years since the early 90s killed boxing. To be interested in a sport or a society to be interested in a sport the people must admire or want to be like the sports superstar. The thing is no one wants to be a boxer anymore. The last true boxer people admired was really Roy Jones. And in 2021, the youth have zero interest in boxing and the millennials are obsessed with the NFL, NBA and younger generations are following the same paths whilst more and more youth are following association football.

The quality of boxers HAS definitely gone down because of the percentage of population actively participating in boxing has crumbled and crash. The best athletes and attention of the masses are going to football, basketball and association football in 2021. No more old school boxing gym or legions of youth “practicing” their hands. Now with all this talk about concussion, CTE and parents worried for the future of their children, I will be surprised in coming years if they can even field enough people fighting for numerous confusing fake belts. Yes, boxing has always existed since dawn but it never has this type of competition EVER and this will be its demise.

And the politics, numerous belts, too many weight classes and bad behaviour from promoters has left an unwanted bitter taste in the mouths of the public; very few due to these reasons follow boxing whilst UFC is different, little politics, few belts and limited weight classes with one promoter.

The new sporting landscape in America and the world has ended the love for Boxing and Track and Field.

Nearly forgot to mention, a bench role player in the NBA makes more money doing nothing than 99% of professional boxers who are risking their life.

Boxing in a sense in the grand scheme of things is truly and utterly finished.
