I loved RG3 in college and rooted for him to do well as a pro, but Mariota has definitely had a more impressive college career.

Never can be certain that it will translate to the pros, but there's seriously no one who can be certain that he'll fail. He's shown every throw, fantastic decision making, and the size, athleticism, and durability he needs.

I think Mariota has been more productive as well.

When I made this thread I was going by the "eye test"

However, Mariota may not be RG3.....he might be Wilson. Which is an upgrade.

Now I'll admit...

RG3's team lost 3 games his last year. His wrs were more talented and Art Briles > Chip's replacement

RG3 was a much more natural passer imo. He was dropping dimes left and right that season.

Mariota still looks as though he needs more polish. He may become a better pro (never know with RG3's health), but his frame worries me on the NFL level as well.

I just dont see the #1 overall pick in him.

No RGIII was a more well rounded talent and is a superior athlete with a better arm and accuracy....

Funny how that doesn't mean much during actual games though.

Athleticism and arm is only part of the picture. Mariota's athleticism, arm, and accuracy are all more than good enough for the pros. (Anyone who thinks Mariota is an inaccurate passer has probably watched about 2 of his games this year.) It's his demeanor and decision-making that have made his college career superior to RGIII's.

In short, no. Rg3 accuracy was damn near pinpoint in 2011 and 2012. The deep throws were :wow: If he can get that back with Desean...man

By decision making, I mean the fact that he always makes the right read and always makes the right decision. A large number of his plays have two run reads and two pass reads (and yes, sometimes even three pass reads), and those reads need to be made incredibly quickly. Mariota makes the right read over...and over...and over.

By demeanor, I mean that he's unshakable. A bad play happens, he comes right back. He makes a few bad throws, comes back and completes 11 in a row. Gets a big hit, jumps right back up and congratulates the guy on the hit (weirds defenders out). Ask the UCLA guys - they were shocked last year when he got hit out of bounds, and he jumped up and yelled to the ref, "Don't throw on that, that was a legit hit!" He sprained his knee in that game and no one even knew, and he played the next four games on that sprained knee without missing a down. Against WSU the whole team was falling apart after the injuries and he got sacked 7 times...and still completed 21-25 for 350 yards, 5 TDs, and 0 INTs. He's always ready for easy games, always ready for big games, always looks cool as ice.

And yes, off the field every single one of his teammates respects the heck out of him, he never gets in any trouble or does the slightest thing to hurt his team, and everyone would die for him out there because they know he puts his whole heart out for them.
