it comes down to effort. Its not fun to put in the work to be good at math. Math is a skill that can be grown like a muscle.

If someone has a harder time building muscle do you change the standard process of what building muscle takes?

ive been shyt at math my entire life, and looking back. It was entirely my fault. I barely got out of business calc in college with a C- that I begged for...

"How to Solve It: A New Aspect of Mathematical Method" by G. Polya , John H. Conway
I also suggest "Thinking, Fast and Slow" by Daniel Kahneman to generalize from what you learned from the first book
Then expand out to pure mathematics for beginner type of books then move on to more advanced books to help your applied mathematics skills
Starting from pure mathematics then the problems is the problem I think people are problem solvers it's better to apply than only know
Gives general advice of how to think instead of what to think
I can find more but this a good starting point
Math is thinking
The definitions and relations between them are the things that are thought about
It's all about increasing your ability to solve more and more complex problems of varying types
and increasing your ability to find optimal ways to solve them
Thanks for this! I always say they should teach math concepts instead of individual problem solving. Once you get the concept down, shyt just comes together. I’ve been trying to build a curriculum around concepts even for use in an after school program.

As someone with a Maths degree, I can wholeheartedly say that Maths isn’t racist. The problem with people not understanding it is and always will be the quality of teaching :beli:

A lot of parents cannot help their kids in math pass like a 5th grade level
This is one of the biggest issues. Parents ideally should be able to fill in the gaps at home with children but alot of parents aren’t up to snuff themselves.

I told my momma when I was a kid that numbers don’t grow in nature so they are not natural and man made. Therefore I cannot respect math. This is why I never had good grades in math. I don’t have time for all that silly shyt. Who the fukk popped up one day talking bout, this is number 1:gucci: Man you better get the fukk out my face with that shyt. It’s not natural. I hate math. fukk that shyt. Tough ass problems for no reason. shyt dumb

Actually, numbers specifically in relation to multiplication occur naturally in nature. Literally all over the place, breh
.

Have you ever heard of the fibonacci sequence? Its the spiral effect you see in leaves or seashells and it is the result of nature naturally mutiply natural entities such as the Calcium carbonate found in conch shells or the cell walls of plants by the number 1.618 exactly to create a predictable pattern of growth/shaping. Its seen so often in nature that it is often called the golden ratio.:whoo:

Same could be said for the semi-exact quantity of pie (3.14) which is often found in nature. Things such as the flow of rivers, the circumfrence/growth of tree trunks, the pigmentation of animal furs are all based on the unit pie. One that most people arent aware of is that pie is an important constant in determining the space between any zebra's stripes in the wild. :ohhh:

I could go into more exotic concepts like the numberE or even "imaginary numbers" which can also be modeled in natural phenomena, but i'll stop here for now.:whoa:

@Double Burger With Cheese , lemme just finish up by saying that those problems are most certainly usefull and do not occur for no reason. We endure the initial difficulty of learning math so that we can better defend what is ours. It doesnt escape my attention that the first atom bomb was developed by mathematicians, not soldiers. And who knows breh? perhaps you wouldve gone on to develop the black equivalent of the H-bomb if you had changed your stance on math earlier in life? :jbhmm:

We're smack dab in the middle of a pandemic and you're saying this?

The coronavirus is saying hold my beer, let me show you how exponential growth works :sas1:

The very premise of the question is absurd and it makes it impossible to have a level discussion.

Mathematics pedagogy is socially influenced and requires proper time and patience, which has to be taught in one a variety of ways.

Impoverished and disadvantaged children simply don’t get as much of that proper education and in conjunction with a variety of other social factors do worse on examinations of mathematics ability.
