I think the internet/social media is taking away the "mystique" in musicians. For me personally, thats what has always made the music feel "special". Today, we simply know too much about these artists. You younger posters will have no idea what im talking about because you guys grew up in this internet/social media era. But for us older posters, there was a time where we really didnt know shyt about the personal lives of the artists we listened to. We would have to read a short article about them in a magazine to find out even a little bit about them.

This whole Drake fiasco got me thinking. Honestly, the whole ghostwriting thing has BEEEEN apart of music. Your favorite rapper have probably gotten help with a line or a bar or 2. Singers have songs written for them. This is nothing new, but for some reason NOW its a big deal. Its a big deal because the overload of information via the internet tells us that its a big deal.

Todays music just isn't special to me. Knowing too much about the artists personal lives has stripped that away. Take Chris Brown for example. The first time i heard this song

i literally made the :beli: face when i heard him sing "i want you to take me serious". I just cant take a woman beating gangbanger serious singing those lines:manny:.

Robin Thicke another example. He makes some good music but now that i know that he's really an alcoholic serial cheater i cant listen to his love music the same. :manny:

I can go on and on about different artists but thats how it is now.

Boys II Men, one of my fav groups, till this day i dont know shyt about them dudes personal lives which makes their music still special to me. They still have "mystique":jawalrus:

Lowkey, i think part of Adele's appeal is the fact that she doesnt oversaturate herself in the media which gives her music a feel of "authenticity".

Anybody else feel this way??

:yeshrug: With age comes a growing sense of cynicism on how you view the world, and the same things that used to inspire wonder and joy get infected with that negative despondency if you let it. You can either choose to be gloomy or not. Your choice. Music new and old still gets me excited. Yeeee!
