No in the 2000s he tried hard to get hits :rudy: I like how the booth conveniently forgets this
he found his niche later
yes, he had hits and the beef kept him in the limelight, but his popularity was always music-based.
and guess what, he was a superstar during those times (award show performances, hits, platinum albums, magazine covers,etc..)
and still compared to his contemporaries, he was the most low-key superstar in hip hop.
he released his music and dipped.

Tabloid super market aisle A List? Nah.

The real A List? Yeah. He can get into any (non racist) celebrity club and has been famous for over 20 years. He been A List since he was 20, but not a complete attention whore about it.

I voted yes, because I will say this. It's weird Nas's name isn't as easily recognizeable by the general population but he still pops up at these huge events and runs in A list circles hanging out with DiCaprio in Europe and shooting jumpers with Obama and shyt. But his name isn't as recognizeable as others by your everyday people. Nas also has a low key personality and doesn't keep his name in the news.

You got a good point.

Nas hit a first wave of generation with illmatic, if I ruled the world who are now og's. He hit those who were adolescent/adult during the jay beef with stillmatic and hit a second generation with I can. Thoses kids who were 10/11 are now 25/27. We're talking about people who are now in the industry, and the medias and who are familliar with social network.

So even if the little kids don't necessarly know who nas is, the industry knows well and he's got a solid fan base. Not to mention he's got international fame unlike a lot of them. A lot of us new cats, the designers, future 2 chains ect got popular music that bangs in the clubs but if they were to walk overseas they would not be necessarly recognized.
