I would also add Mads Mikkelsen to this list.
He didn't become well known until Casino Royale...by which time he was 40 or 41. If I remember correctly, I think he was a dancer before he got into acting.

BTW, if you're into emotional dramas, "After The Wedding" (2006) is a good Danish movie.
He made a few foreign films prior to his Hollywood break but its always tricky with foreign actors to know if they had notoriety in their homeland cinema industry. Im a big Mads fan. He can somehow play any type of role despite looking and sounding like a comic book villain.

Geoffrey Rush has been acting since the 1980s but I don't think he got any widespread recognition until he did Les Miserables in 1998. By that time he was 47 years old.
By the time he did Pirates of the Caribbean, he was 52
Another great shout:wow:

Ah, thats trickier. Much more interesting thread now. :jbhmm:
On the contrary, the latter is more tricky and dare I say even rare as to my recollection, there has never been an actor that went from being shyt to fantastic.
Vast majority of late bloomers are those who have always been great at acting but never really got their big break or capitalise on it

I guess I would also add Christoph Waltz to this list.
Though I'm not sure if it makes sense since he was kind of known in Europe. And I'm not sure how recognizable he is to the average American movie lover.

No youre right. I had it backwards. I was thinking you said latter thats why I said its more interesting. Make the thread about talent instead of break.
