I was actually around to watch games and see Penny's skills and impact. I don't need to rely on box scores to form an assessment.

Being an inefficient gunner (who doesn't play defense and doesn't impact the game in other ways) who scores a lot of points on mediocre teams does not impress me. Anyone who understands basketball knows that a prime Gilbert Arenas was not even half as good as a prime Penny Hardaway.

Does influence and impact on the game of basketball count?

If so, then penny should get in. Penny name gets mentioned constantly when people talk greats whether on TV or on social media.

I don’t think it’s all about Statistics.

Look at Reggie Miller

Then of course we can’t name to many basketball players in history more talented all around

Advanced stats got 96 penny over arenas peak.
It’s hard to name any players better than healthy penny at his peak honestly :hubie:
But Arenas gonna get into the internet podcast hall of fame :banderas:

Gil was good but just not res0pected like penny, and hasn’t had much impact on the game

Loved Penny but he isn't a Hall of Famer. If he could have gotten 5 or 6 healthy seasons in maybe he would be. But he doesn't have enough All NBA All Star or any individual awards to be a real candidate. But before the injuries he was up next after Mike along with Grant to be the face of the NBA and it wasn't JUST cause he was popular. Boy could play his ass off. Remember cats talking about him putting up 21 and 7 back then like it wasn't elite like he wasn't playing with 3 other guys who could get 25-30 any night along with this being the dead ball era.

It’s the TMZball hall of fame. You think they got standards? If they did, Petrovic, Rodman or Walton (as well as a host of others) wouldn’t be in. So going by their standards, Penny is a HoFer (and I was a Hardaway stan). BTW, those saying no, how many were y’all alive to even remember Penny coming out of Memphis St and into the league?

Yeah Penny played with starters that were all capable scorers, so he didn't have to take a lot of shots or spoon feed them the ball every time for them to score points. Shaq is averaging almost 30 a game, Dennis Scott and Brick Anderson could get 15-20 any given game, Horace Grant was a double digit guy...
But during the games those 94-97 Magic teams played you could easily tell that majority of the time Penny was one of the top 2 players on the court

Rodman got 5 rings and like 6 rebounding turned, 2 DPOY, and 8 all defense teams.

Walton was one of the best college players ever. And had decent success in the NBA and a longer career,

I, for one, welcome our new space overlords.

Normally I'd say no.....but the Basketball HOF encompasses everything you do and isn't strictly NBA stuff. Much easier to get in there versus NFL or MLB.
