Think Pete Rock and Q-Tip take this as they had dope projects out last year. Yet they both dropped dope projects that moved culture in 90/91 that’s a 33/34 span with plenty classic material in between.

I liked the Marsha’s project that Dre produced last year but a lot Dre’s projects are collaborative efforts so how does one compare a collaborative production/beat-making effort to single person project?

P did a lot with Chad, Q-Tip co produced with Ali Shaheed & Dilla, Kanye worked with a number of co producers. Whereas Premier, Pete Rock & Rza etc. mostly make all their own beats by themselves.

Alchemist can make pop records, rock records, soul records, dance music, movie scores?

Lol.…love Al but saying he has more “range” as a producer is laughable when he barely ranges his ass out of a single genere

Even if you want to talk about solely hip-hop/RnB .…being able to go from making records like “Apeshyt” or “Blurred Lines” but also “Ride Around Shinnin” is something I haven't seen from Alc
He’s got some electronic dance music, some synth movie scores, and some live beats. And he’s got a Grammy with Anderson Paak.

He’s not all underground sample beats. Just mostly. lol

My bad, I thought we were talking more hip hop as a genre. My case would be buttressed by saying look at Alc’s evolution with an artist like P. Albert Einstein was nothing like the joints on HNIC, showcasing how much both grew in that time. This new Clips joint is basically a lesser version of their older shyt. I respect your point, though, good stuff

Yeah, HNIC was super different than Return of the Mac which was super different then Albert Einstein. None of those 3 batches sound similar

Pharrell is cool. There’s underground producers either right there with him or kicking his ass. He’s definitely worse now than in his prime

Not sure about longevity he’s definitely in the GOATs for sure - I actually have him number 3 behind RZA at 1 and Dre at 2, with Primo at 4 and Havoc/ALC at 5.

What he has over all the above is that he can make some of the best RnB you ever heard and also some rock shyt:

But cause he’s a singing ass, Louis Vuitton creative director people underestimate his rap beats but he can make some hardest rap shyt out:

🐐 for sure.

The thing with "Use Your Heart" is, Pharrell said that him and Chad produced that, but Teddy took the credit.

Which I totally believe because at that point, Teddy had a lot of young producers and writers fueling his Future Studios thing he started in VA.
The Neptunes are credited for that record.

Tip's work with The Ummah is separate.

I'm talking about his work that he did for Tribe and others forever. There's too many classics to even name. Ali and Phife weren't doing sh*t on those beats, lol. That's why Tip was so mad about being so humble and not being all about the glory and why Busta said if people really pay attention, Tip's "the Dr. Dre of the East Coast". Nobody's had the kinda run he's had behind the boards, for as long.
What Ali had no input in the production on those first three Tribe albums at all? I think everyone knows Q Tip did most of it and ultimately oversaw the overall sound of those early tribe albums but surely when your in a group everything that comes out of the group is collaborative to a degree. I mean even Guru co produced with Premier on those Gang Starr albums.

Tip said he did all their beats by himself, but wanted Jive to put "produced by A Tribe Called Quest" in the credits so that he didn't outshine anyone else in the group, and make it about him. So even when you look at sh*t like Apache's "Gangsta B*tch", it says "produced by A Tribe Called Quest", but that was really just Tip making the beat alone.

That's why he was so mad when Phife said the group was revolving too much around him being in the front. He said, "I do all these beats and nobody else helped, but I still gave credit to the whole group and now you're saying I'm hogging the spotlight?"

See this the bullshyt I be talking bout :russ:

Anyway, it’s nikkas like Large Professor who is a far better producer than Pharrell is.

I understand that nikkas are hype because of the new Clipse album just came out but calm down lol
