After the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis Era which sold almost the same I believe with Sega leading most of the era and Super Nintendo taking the lead in the end I believe Super Nintendo was techinically more powerful but it didn't feel that way because of Sega's marketing with the blast processing nonsense and how they marketed the speed of sonic and the fact that Sega had the sports games and blood in Mortal Kombat at the time

But N64 more powerful than PS1 but sold half

The first XBOX felt like it was double the power of the ps2 but sold like shyt and in my opinion gamecube ended up having the best looking game of that era with RE4, but for developers it made more sense to start the games on the Ps2 and to always have a ps2 version available

The PS3 ended up being the more powerful out of it and the 360 but it lagged in sales in the beginning and many of the multi plats had terrible ports on the ps3 because the 360 was the lead system for multi-plats

Now the Ps4 is the clear more powerful one and its selling about double the pace of the One and Japan hasn't even launched yet...is this the first time that the more powerful system will be the lead system and have developers fully take advantage of the more powerful system?

Just think if Nintendo didn't back out of their deal to go disc based with Sony....... :wow:

Cartridges and premium pricing killed the N64 even though it was still mildly successful. The Nintendo NES generation was growing up and Nintendo didn't adjust.

you had to have that overpriced ps2 hard drive (only compatible with the OG PS2 I might add) in order to get halftime highlights. Xbox was clearly more powerful than the PS2, somebody smoking some good shyt to think otherwise.

Funny thing is now that Nvidia pissed off MS,Nintendo, and Sony with their one sided deals on the OG Xbox Graphics card, Gamecube Graphics card, and the RSX on the PS3.

AMD having the business for ALL consoles is hilarious to me and Nvidia is salty as fukk about it.

Nintendo would have had a monopoly, i'm not sure it could have worked out where Sony and Nintendo could agree on how to split profits though it would have been awesome for gamers if there was one system with nintendo 64 graphics that was also cd based ...I wonder if Sega still goes out of business...regardless the Saturn would have been food and it would have been interesting to have a nintendo labeled ps2 with nintendo and playstation franchises...Dreamcast would have been on some return of the Jedi had microsoft decided to never enter the console business or maybe partnered with Sega instead to guide it software interface wise since honestly thats the best contribution to gaming that microsoft had is getting online and interfacing right

Plase explain the primary suggestion of this thread. At first Ithought it was a 'rub it n the face' of Xb1 owners. Then thinking further I am wondering is there some ultimate point? I don't have either console yet but want to understand the ultimate point.

I think he's asking the question of whether it was true or not. I think it is. (Bolded = most powerful, Red = Winner)

NES/Sega master System Era - Nope
SNES/Genesis era - SNES overtook Genesis at the end
PS1/Saturn, N64 Era - Nope
PS2/Dreamcast/Gamecube/Xbox Era - Nope
PS3/Wii/Xbox 360 Era - Nope
PS4/Wii U/Xbox One Era - So far it is

Only the SNES appears to be the case.

Basically the point was that for the first time the lead console is also the more powerful one and won't suffer from shytty ports because they start developing the game on the console with the bigger install base ....some dev's might not even bother porting some games to xbox one now if the user base gap becomes that huge
