The PTSD Crisis That’s Being Ignored: Americans Wounded in Their Own Neighborhoods — ProPublica

Chicago’s Cook County Hospital has one of the busiest trauma centers in the nation, treating about 2,000 patients a year for gunshots, stabbings and other violent injuries.

So when researchers started screening patients there for post-traumatic stress disorder in 2011, they assumed they would find cases.

They just didn’t know how many: Fully 43 percent of the patients they examined – and more than half of gunshot-wound victims – had signs of PTSD.

“We knew these people were going to have PTSD symptoms,” said Kimberly Joseph, a trauma surgeon at the hospital. “We didn’t know it was going to be as extensive.”

"That's why we get high, cause you never know when you gonna go!"

I would add just being Black in America can cause it.

This.

That's why I posted that Fredo Santana smiley. Bruh was heavy on the drugs because of what he experienced growing up in the chi.

100%! Took me a long time to realize that not everyone walks around with a weapon. Most of the people on this planet don't live like.

Being poor, and being black and living in the hood in America not sure how you can't have it.

I haven't been officially diagnosed but I still don't feel comfortable sleeping in beds till this day. Floor and a blanket and I'm gravy.
And I'm way pass poor now.

Back to back swisher sweets never on no sober shyt Post traumatic stress I feel like that's wut I'm coppin with

And it’s something that goes untreated
