This will probably be my last post in this thread because....well, it's a 40/KRS/Rakim thread and it's 2019. But it's hilarious how everyone on The Coli claims to be young and/or avoids discussing how old they are....but speaks as if they have first hand experience when it comes to rappers from 25-30 years ago. Some of yall are clearly fronting, either way.

I'm well aware of what they did in their primes breh. Rakim was once considered the best rapper in the game and many believe Nas got his whole style from him...Pac even alluded to it on "Against all odds". I'm not talking about what he did for the 10 years he was active.

I'm talking about if E-40 and Rakim both walked in a mall in Omaha Nebraska today, who would the youth recognize between E-40, Rakim and KRS-One and you know damn well they won't recognize Ra and KRS.
Right. I don’t think anyone disputes that.

But you’re in here arguing that E-40 is also more relevant to the history of hip hop, right?

I’m well aware Californians historically haven’t demanded the same quality from their local rappers that New York once did which speaks to a guy like E-40 being a luminary.

Ya know how Busta Rhymes pops up every 5 years or so and torches a feature on a trash pop rap song? Imagine a NYer claiming he was more relevant than Ice Cube.

Shame on you. Seriously.

THIS

THIS basically sums it all up.

if rakim was from san Francisco or somewhere, these dudes would be swearing that hes still poppin.

It's funny how dudes say 40 is regional yet dudes from the south, east, midwest and the west all put him on their singles. Who outside of the east coast throwing Rakim or KRS one on their single...New York nighas wouldnt even do it post 1999.

youre too caught up in industry connects.

how many records is he selling in all of these places?
how much genuine buzz does he have in these spots?
hell, even on some industry chit, do they even play him on the radio in most of these markets? and when they do, is it because of him or the other artists on the song?

:whistle::whistle:

What 40 is doing will never be done again. Be 52 and have the hottest rappers in the game fukking with you heavy. Breh had an album out every year since 86....unbelievable.

jay-z will be 52 in a couple years.

and his projects are actually relevant when he drops.

Rappers from all those selected regions has had E-40 on their shyt tho. Schoolboy Q is a huge 40 fan and we know how much Atlanta fukks with 40.

lol

people in atlanta are not running around bumpin & checkin for e-40.

^I answered this. Commercially yes/Non-commercially no. I might even take back Commercially because he's loading up on features. Tagging yourself to others is a sign of not being relevant.

If nobody has said it. 40 been active since like 88', breh

selling tapes out your trunk does not count.

nobody knew him.

Next to Hammer, who else in the early 90s got a million dollar record deal as an artist AND distribution deal?

Shyt name ANY INDIE artist in the early pre 94' to get a million dollar deal. @Homeboy Runny-Ray

jive knew the bay was a landmine that supports its own.

e-40 was one of the rappers that was smart enough to cash all the way out on what jive was doing.

whats your point??

say word you ain't rock wit tell me when to go.. i thought it was crazy personally. that nikka keak spazzed on that for real. anyway what did you think of the u and dat booty joint with the autotune gawd t-pain, same? on some wave riding shyt?

now to play devil's advocate here at the bolded. the teacher did do the step into the world remix with puffy back in '97 much to the chagrin of mad hip hop heads. not me though, i fukked with it heavy. straight tunnel banger, lyrical as fukk (of course) and without question most definitely trendy. feelings on that? talk to me my G

"tell me when to go" was wave-riding the failed hyphy movement.
"u & dat" was all about t-pain/autotune.

all KRS did on the puffy remix was rap over an '80s beat.
also, it was a radio-only remix to KRS' single which was already big.

Ok. So at what point did E-40 become more historically important for hip-hop than KRS and Rakim?
See? This is what was the point of this thread.

First dude made a question on who's relevant today, by comparing artist who still makes music to artists who don't make music anymore

Then with enough dudes dapping his posts he slowly switches the topic to E-40 being in the same category as Rakim or KRS. Then next step he will call E-40 greater all time rapper than those two :dead:

Shame shame shame

We are already there.
I'm trying to see when he thinks that shift occurred, what music did E-40 release that led him to pass KRS and Rakim?
Was it Tell Me When to Go and U and Dat? Snap Your Fingers? Choices? This latest single with Quavo?

Your post is confusing. Are you saying Rakim and KRS are historically more important for hip hop than 40?

What goal posts have I moved?

Jive didnt know anything.

You said he didnt pioneer anything, I just gave you an example.

Thats my point..
Not gonna click all the way back through the exchange, so I apologize if I’m misunderstanding your point, but didn’t Short and Spice have the Jive deal first?

40 was on Spice’s album in 93.

I don't understand what makes that so hard to get.

Y'all getting mad like your OPINION is factual, when the only thing factual is young people don't care about rakim or krs like that. :yeshrug:

Nah. You don't see me saying Spice 1 is still relevant today.
