Top 3

and he has 2 universal classics in Whut? Thee Album and Muddy Waters

Dare iz a Darkside is arguable

Probably the most talented MC of all-time. Can rap over any beat, using any flow, with crazy lyricism and technical ability. Longevity. Discography. Mic skills. Relevancy. He has it all.
Dare Iz a Darkside is his best album easily.

They're both dope spitters but Redman has a better discography IMO and is more well rounded

Roots discography > Redmans discog

Redman's first 3-4 albums were phenomenal but after that it was good to ok but nothing spectacular while the roots have been out for over 25 years and even as recent as 2011 they made an album that is considered a classic and one of the ebst in their discography.

Agree on canibus since his discog isnt that great. But to me Rip the Jacker and Mic CLub: The cirriculum are PHENOMENAL albums with cohesion, great production, subject matter, storytelling, lyricism, and etc....
BT would be in my top 30-35 no doubt.

damn not even top 20... How far do you have your offcial OAT list mapped out?

Red Gone Wild was a great album. The rest were solid bar Reggie, which was released half assed to fulfill contract obligations.

Roots maybe more consistent but their best material ain't touching Redman's. And that 2011 album isn't a classic. They have two max, probably one.

This is how I see it:

Redman vs Black thought
Technical lyrical ability: BT
Flow: reggie
Storytelling: BT
Delivery: Redman
Socially Conscious/content: BT
Quotables/punchlines: Not sure, I would go with redman but I think BT can go bar for bar with him and might win. Tie for now
Ability to Battle/diss : Not sure, tie
Originality: redman
Discography: BT
Overall:
BT- 5
redman- 3
2 ties
BT wins

Redman vs Canibus
Technical lyrical ability: Canibus but its sort of close
Flow: Redman
Storytelling: Canibus
Delivery: redman
Socially Conscious/content: Canibus
Quotables/punchlines: Canibus
Ability to Battle/diss : Canibus
Originality: Redman
Discography:Redman
Overall:
Canibus-5
Redman- 4
Even if you take out the battle category it would be a tie, but I would still choose canibus over redman. BTW canibus renegaded redman twice, once on 4321, and another time on Beast from the east (with a CRAZY verse).

"We knew he (canibus) was a fukkING BEAST"- Redman on DJVLAD the other day

What r u talking about? I just compare the two rappers in aspects that matter to much such as their skills in flow, storytelling, delivery, and etc... to see which one is more well rounded...

Depends how you define classic. In hip hop head communitys classics are basically really really great albums that are top tier level quality. To me the the roots have 2 undeniable certified "classics" Things fall apart and Illadelph halflife. Undun is more debatable and can be considered a classic. So to me 2-3 classics.

Debatable and sure as hell ain't easily but either way, it isn't as classic as the other two due to impact/influence/relevancy . Quality is there for sure.
Yeah it depends on your taste. The more I think about it his first 3 albums are pretty unique in his creative approach.

Whut? was mostly EPMD-type gritty street raps with some humor over funk beats.

The creative leap to DIAD was pretty large. That album was like some psychedlic/funkadelic rap shyt.

DIAD may have been too out in left field for some people, but he definitely improved lyrically from Whut?

Muddy Waters was kind of a return to the Whut? vibe with the improved lyricism of DIAD.

I personally think DIAD is his magnum opus, so it's surprising to hear him say he doesn't really like or listen to it. Like he said he had some personal issues going on...it's just strange to hear an artist talk down about one of their great defining works, especially in hip-hop.
