Is rice a requirement for a meal for everyone else? Just curious, is this a sign of gullah geech?

That's not a geechie specific or requirement :dahell: y'all was probably just broke and it made meals easier

Or maybe the people cooking just had a preference and that's all it was :dahell: like most people, it mighta been a way for them to save money tho, fill ya up with rice

Why wouldn't you ask your own family first?:dahell: :mjlol:

You MIGHT see pork n beans + rice but even then most people walking right past that shyt and going for the BBQ shyt off the grill

Its a caribbean/african thing. Rice is pretty much the default for every meal, white rice rice and peas rice and beans etc you name it

I been knew the answer, this just conversation. There's a reason certain tribes were brought here in the slave trade!

Pasta >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Rice

Pasta is 10x more versatile for meals and better for energy

It's not a REQUIREMENT but rice is present in 90% of the meals I prep. I ain't Geechee at all tho, it's just common sense: Filling meal at a fraction of the price

My family is largely Caribbean/southern flavored n rice is a staple.

We don't do mashed potatoes like that at all.

Once in a blue moon.

White rice/rice n peas.

If we put out a spread at Thanksgiving n swapped rice for mashed potatoes I promise there's gonna be words.

What’s interesting is almost all cultures in the world eat the same staples. Grains(rice, wheat or corn). Tubers (potatoes and cassava).

Inuits may be the only people I can think of that didn't traditionally rely on these staples.
