In USTA circles, she isnt that beloved but she is respected to the highest degree. She is the ultimate standard. Some parents/coaches in the know dont like Bolletieri because he went around the rules to get both the sisters into high level tournaments without qualifying, which they then did very well in and allowed them to go pro quick. Me personally, I dont care because the USTA is a scam and I love the sisters who, at the end of the day, outperformed everyone else and it didnt matter. Them not having to play a lot of those junior tournaments have helped them play into their later years at a high level significantly more than their American counterparts and is probably why even the most talented American youth will not have lengthy careers even if they develop their games (Madison Keys etc). In terms of the general public, then yeah its part racism and part apathy towards tennis.
