As someone that was popular on twitter during this period, I can’t deny it played a part even though there are c00ns for the sake of being c00ns.

It wasn’t as malicious as it looks in hindsight but it was basically like high school online. EVERYONE got it but dark skinned women got it hardest. Everyone was trying to tweet like that VH1PNUT dude lol.

My roster then was mainly dark skinned women so I didn’t really join in apart from one time I said ‘light skin women are so bougie with texting, dark skin women reply before you’ve even clicked send’ and I deleted it 5 mins later cause it didn’t feel right just being a sheep and clowning dark skin women for the sake of it

Honestly I think part of it is a result of that—it was bad back in that era I remember it. Brehs were savage, but I also remember bw doing the swirl agenda around that time too. It was going both ways, the Brehs just were more savage around that time with it.

Nah, the REAL ignorant era was from 88-2004. Before (the old) Kanye West, the trends of black culture was to mean mug, shoot dice, fight, get locked up, and be mad ignorant. By 2004, you hear every demographic of black folk talking about "maybe I should go back to college and switch up from my 4XL outfits" . The Mid 00s was when a lot of the 'alternative' black folks werent outsed as weirdos and gotten shine for the first time. And contrary to what others believed, Obama being elected in 2008 actually deaded the crack era superthug image that was popular.

Social media blew up at the same time, and these blativity black folks that are college educated were at the center of attention and had media spots for them. That gave birth to the shea butter era, which was the deathblow of hoodrat behavior (for a short period of time).
