Ehh, I don't know if I agree. Everybody any they mamma want to make music yeah but everybody and they mamma can't make radio quality sounding music. And if you want to get on, your shyt needs to sound good. It'd be like saying the photography industry is dying because everybody and they mamma has a 8 megapixel iphone 6 and takes pictures.
But a lot of nikkas get in then the labels remaster their shyt.

So as long as it's better than average these artists got a chance.

I think it still matters. A few of my favorite albums of the past few years, GKMC, Under Pressure, and Tetsuo and Youth, you could tell the audio quality was just better than most the other shyt out. OVO's stuff is always on point too.

The same thing is gonna happen to IT workers 10 years from now. Everyone and their mama getting certs, and it makes the skill worthless on the pay scale.

Any job in the music industry is going to be highly competitive and hard to get.

I used to make beats and it's very similar. No way in hell would I pay to go to audio engineering school tho. The industry doesn't value degrees. I'd try to network myself into being an apprentice of someone already doing it and learn that way to get a foot in the door if I wanted to go that route.

or get lucky and befriend an up and coming rapper or producer before they blow up.

To this, actually there is more of a demand than before just probably a surplus of "qualified" engineer. Qualified doesn't equate to talent. One engineer cannot engineer everything and needs rest so there's room but if is a marathon to work with the big dogs, though.

Yeah, ear fatigue is a bytch.

got a degree in that it's a waste of time and money

just call the commercial studios and go be an intern, because that's where you will start any once get your degree

they'll teach how to run everything, because every studio is patched differently and just watch youtube videos, buy protools and learn it yourself

I worked in a couple big studios, I quit because the hours and are shyt, and I preferred to be my own boss, plus you have to be able to stomach a$$holes, because the egos of the people you will encounter are out of control, and you have to be careful not to slap the shyt out of somebody

audio engineering is dead, real studios are ROOMS, it's the way the room is built that gives a certain sound, which is why audio engineering was big in the 70's and people sought out of studios

Electronic Music today you don't need a studio because everything is digital, so why would somebody pay all the money to record at commercial studio when they guy just buy protools, I good audio interface, a decent mic, and a good preamp, and record the same thing

mastering is a different issue, because you need a certain facility in order to properly master, but you just send in the 2 track already mixed

going the studio is pointless unless you a recording a large band or an orchestra in this era

You should learn a variety of related skills. If you only know how to record vocals in protools youre gonna starve. Learn live audio in addition to audio engineering

Also learn how to record bands. Recording rappers only is worse than being a jizzmopper

"ahh one more take, let's get it" x 1000000000

There's still a need for audio engineers but you can't expect to go to a (most likely) unaccredited college of school and expect to come out of it with a job. You need to develop strong relationships with people in the industry and put in serious work. I know a number of people who all went to these bullshyt schools and never amounted to shyt because they didn't have a work ethic or the balls to try and meet or network with potential employers.
One dude out of 10-15 I know ended up building and owning his own studio, but he still has to do sound work for theatre tours and also work as a magicians assistant just to make a decent living.
