Some of the smartest hip hop artists have came out of the South

Outkast, Geto Boys (to a larger extent Scarface), and if you're looking for a new school answer; Big Krit

Completely deny the existence of two of the most GOAT hip hop groups of all time, brehs.

EDIT: Killer Mike is intelligent as well

People who hate on southern hip hop are just as corny as people who hate on older NY stuff calling it "dust"

To quote Yams.. RIP

radthough asked: U only f*** with trap artist or nikkas that can actually rap too? Honest question

Peace but you got me f***ed up lols.

I grew up on the Rakims and BIGs, but I’m a student of the game and will forever be just that. I never close my ears off to anybody or anything especially when I have a chance to learn something. That’s how it keeps you young and on your toes with life period. I feel bad for people that get stuck in their ways and hate everything about this generation’s music and are too busy trying to relive their past. That shyt looks miserable.

Anybody that would write off Young Jeezy but praise Nas Escobar is a bigger a$$hole than most the young kids they despise. They have the same subject matter just explained differently. Nas just communicates it through metaphors complex story telling and double entendres. Every hood is the same just different lingo.

Don’t judge a rap by it’s lyricism or any of that, judge it by how much game you gettin from it. That’s what really makes a rap good or bad in my opinion.

:martin:

It's not about subject matter, it's about emotional and intellectual depth. Two people can talk about crack, and one's piece will be garbage, boring and trite. While the other is illuminating, genuine and necessary.

I get what you're saying overall in your comment and I agree with appreciating music from all coasts. But we shouldn't sugarcoat shyt. Nas makes WAY better music than Young Jeezy, and others of his ilk. And it's not even solely because Nas 'says' more/is more lyrical on paper. Nas's flow and beats just go deeper. While Jeezy's doesn't and is disposable garbage.
