He didn't know Chichi was pregnant and he didn't stay dead for the hell of it. He stayed dead because he thought he was the reason why people kept trying to destroy earth. The saiyans came because of him, frieza came back because he wanted revenge, the androids were created because of the creator's desire for revenge for Goku destroying the red ribbon army.

He had a wife, a kid, and another kid on the way. He needed to go home and be a family man.
And that's OOC AF because Goku has repeatedly shown that he gives no fukks about the Earth being destroyed if he can get a good fight out of it. So he really just stayed dead so he could train for seven years without aging, and so he wouldn't have to be with his kids.

How is it worse? Timewise Goten had to be conceived in the 10 days while they were waiting for the Cell Games which is the day he died. So it is completely possible that both Chichi and Goku didn't know she was pregnant at the time. I don't agree that its OOC for him maybe his Super version cause his characterization was changed a bit. At the time of Z he wasn't so reckless with his thirst for battle.That's worse.
