It's here to stay bc of the obvious higher value, but also because it basically gives shorter/not-as-skilled/not-as-athletic players a lane making basketball more accessible.

Soccer is the most popular sport because it's fun and anyone can play.

And if I were to take basketball's accessibility a bit further, an emphasis on three-point shooting makes the game less physical. Basketball is a game of physical and emotional intensity that prevents just anyone from stepping on the court. You start to take those things away and you allow some of the culture/blackness to erode.

Perfect execution.

As for the thread, you'll start to see players with post games again because of all the spacing.

The Yay
the problem is if you're a decent shooter, there's very little reason to NOT shoot threes. the mid-range shot is pretty much dead as bread and butter.

A three point shooter only need to shoot .340 from the three range to equal and best a .500 mid-range shooter over 100 shots. the expected value is just so much higher. plus refs starting to call these fouls on 3s.

There can be post game and kickout threes because post/ paint game helps perimeter players, but good post game is hard to have and master. You can jack threes easily tho if you're a guard or combo guard and we have big men shooting 3s too nowadays.

Philly bouls, Trust the Process
Grizzlies actually shot a lot more from 3 this year and had a balanced attack between post play and 3s...they also were involved in prolly the most exciting playoff series this year against the Spurs. They're not as boring as people say, escpecially this past year
Nobody wants to watch ya boring ass team :mjlol:

this debate might as well be whether or not you are even in favor of the 3 pt line.

because obviously if there is a 3 pt line, and you can shoot it very well, you would be a fool not to take advantage of it. it took the league awhile to catch up but we are now at the point where everyone grows up shooting 3's... so it's just a normal shot now.

but prior to the 3 pt line, the game did not reward long distance shooting.

the question is SHOULD the game basketball reward long distance shooting?

i say yes. watching these teams move the ball around and find the open man is entertaining to me. the warriors are a beautiful team to watch.

shooting is a skill though.

I used "not-as-skilled" in a relative sense because in basketball there are many skills, so being able to just shoot is just one many skills required. A shooter that can't dribble, pass, defend, and rebound, would likely be considered not-as-skilled as the other players on the court.

true but would a guy like that even cut it in the nba?

you still have to be able to do more than just shoot.

Yes, because I'm saying that the increased value and focus placed on this one skill has opened a wider lane. And this skill can be possessed by shorter players, not-as-skilled players, and not-as-athletic players that translates to actually making a difference. So it appeals to more players than if the emphasis were on the low-post or creating off the dribble.
