The US could cut military spending by 1/3rd and spend it on Infrastructure, Education, and other social programs and we'd still be the most powerful nation in the world military wise, and the returns on that investment in itself will push the country forward even more.

1. Not every nation does so equally. Period. This can't even be a serious argument

2. These nations spend more on social welfare because they don't have nearly the same expenses or population that the USA does.

1. US is free to get out, like they did for the UNESCO. If they don't, it's because it's to their advantage. You can't seriously believe the US is a benevolent actor in NATO lol
2. Each country decides what is wants to spend on what. That's what a budget is for. Scandinavian countries decide to invest in their population/the future, the US in arms, prisons and banks.

1. I don't care about what you perceive as "benevolent" but they certainly pursue their own interests. As does everyone else. Learn the difference.

2. Most of Europe doesn't spend on nearly as much stuff as we do or has the land or population to support it. I really don't think you understand how much defense spending plays into this. The US Military arguably supports Europe's welfare state.

1. That's what I said. US pays what it pays because it's in THEIR interest to do so. Scandinavian countries don't because it's not in THEIR interest to do so. If Americans aren't happy about the deal, they can abandon NATO.

2. what :russ:

ALL agree...part of the reason Europe can do a lot of what it does is their LACK of military spending overall.

Americans saying Europeans are freeriding? Gee, you don't say :ohhh:.That's what they're supposed to say breh, come on. And AGAIN, not all countries are obsessed by war, guns, tanks and drones as the US is. Is that so hard to understand for an American? shyt, Europeans know how obsessed you guys are with the army, we know that no matter what happens that's one thing you will keep on funding forever, so why should we fund it more? You'd rather invade Irak than have health care :heh:

Again, if the US has an issue with it, get out of NATO, Europe, etc. If it's such a burden, why don't you guys just get out ? You guys got out of UNESCO, don't care about the UN, even less about the ICC...why not get out of NATO if that's what stopping the US from having an efficient welfare state?

Do you not realize Europe has the same aims that the USA does?

They can sit on their hands talking about how high and mighty they are while thanking the USA for taking the pressure off of them for having to do the same things.
