I mean, all of can agree that 2014/2015 was a big year for XO: he was nominated for an Oscar, had a few number 1 hits and a Grammy nomination for AOTY. And after selling 400K+ first week, I kinda assumed that BBTM was slaying the charts.

But as it turns out, the Weeknd is being outsold by J.Cole. :jbhmm:

And I re-listened to House of Balloons last night and that nikka peaked with Wicked Games. :dame:

Also BONUS: Bryson Tiller needs to stop lying to people about Trapsoul being plat. :stopitslime:

He ain't even close to GOLD. :mjlol::russ:

J Cole moves albums no doubt. But is he doing the same venues as the weeknd on tour?

Sounds silly but album sales are just 1 metric. You have to figure shows. Singles do count. Awards. Position within the genre.

His previous albums were commercial duds. :stopitslime:

Although I personally loved Born Sinner.

I witnessed Weeknd sell out the O2 at his own pace :wow:

Weeknd success if not overstated. These other RnB artists ain't moving units at all.

The Trilogy changed my life. God bless Abel
House of Balloons is his best work to date.

I just realized that BBTM is just a watered down version of that shyt.

Only dud you can say was maybe his 1st joint. I vividly remember muthafukkas being surprised that he outsold Kanye in the 1st week.

Plus I think they're all platinum now with the new rules but prior to that they were both Gold

There's no shame in similar to J Cole at all. RnB music doesn't sell like rap. J Cole is one of the highest selling album artists in rap.

Weeknd ain't even done a video interview before. His success is unique.
Weeknd ain't "RnB" bih. :heh:

And :heh: at you trying to play like the The Weeknd is underground or some shyt.

Status and popularity wise I thought was an easy assumption to make that TW was miles ahead JC, especially since he's super mainstream now. But the numbers tell a different story.

And as I've stated J.Cole's previous albums didn't even go GOLD or barely did.

Nah Kanye sold more first week but J Cole sold more overall. He made the point in an interview that Kanye does arenas with 1 or no supporting acts for a high ass price. At the time Cole didn't do arenas.

So there's levels to it beyond sales.

I've always thought HOB is his best work but it changes. Most of the music on Thursday is ridiculous.Echoes is gorgeous. KissLand is beautiful. He's yet to really miss. 2nd half of BBTM wasn't really for me thought because it was clearly aimed for pop appeal.
