Is there a practice version of Active Directory?

U can setup a machine with a trial version of server 2008, 12, or 16. Setup a normal machine. Setup a domain and add machines and users. Go from there

It wasn't super smooth to be honest but only because of "life happening" and me being irresponsible. Had I been more serious, I'd be much further in my career right now.

I get that. Life happens when you're making plans. Dev work is more coding ? Or are there other components to it? If you don't mind me asking?

Definitely more coding, which is challenging but very satisfying because I love problem solving. There are certainly other components, one of the most important being careful planning.
