Drug game in the 80s was way different now. Middle men like Jay was were making more money than a lot of "big time" hustlers make now because of the whole dynamics. Back then drug markets were wide open. Police didn't care at all. Fiends would be lined up for blocks. Big time hustlers then could make 100 K off one block in a day. Now you'd never see that.

It is not a far-fetch that Jay used to be a drug dealer and was distributing bricks . Dude grew up in the crack epidemic era. In the crack epidemic era, a lot of black men who grew up in the hood were either millionaires or making above 100k in a year ; they earned their income from pushing tons of kilos. Some of you acting like drug dealers who made lucrative cash off selling dope are mystical creatures like unicorns.
